O'Connor Nurseries, based at Barnland just outside Gorey, recently returned from the Glas trade show with one of the event's top awards.

The nursery scooped the award for best plant stand at Ireland's biggest horticulture event for businesses. O'Connor Nurseries entered a colourful Alice in Wonderland floral display which was designed by Ann O'Connell.

The O'Connor's team was chosen by the judges as one of four overall award winners at the event. 'We're absolutely delighted,' said Jim O'Connor. 'A lot of it was down to the hard work of Ann O'Connell. She put a huge amount of work into it. She's a very artistic young lady.'

'The standard was very high,' he added, also paying tribute to the entire team at Barnland.

'It's great to be judged against your peers,' he said. 'This was the main trade show for the horticultural sector in the country, and our only forum for gaining new customers and engaging with existing customers.'

The Glas trade show, supported by Bord Bia, was held at the Citywest Events Centre in Dublin, and was attended by over 1,000 industry representatives, and 145 exhibitors.

Jim said that O'Connor Nurseries is as busy as ever, with over 40 people working there full time and part time during the summer.
