THE Brandon House Hotel in New Ross has scooped a major award at an Ireland Active awards night for its leisure centre team's excellence in hygiene, health and safety and customer service.

Assistant manager of the leisure centre, Emmet Doherty said: 'We are delighted to win the award. We wouldn't have won it without the help of our dedicated staff.'

A large crowd attended the function at the Slieve Russell Hotel and Mr Doherty said all of the winners had to adhere to very high standards of customer service, health and safety, and hygiene.

'There is a lot of documentation and legislation wide the amount of paperwork has doubled since we won the award last. We are delighted to win the award. We were a little bit behind the deadline in putting in our application and the hotel pushed and got it in so without the help of the hotel and the staff members we wouldn't have achieved the award so there was great staff involvement.'

Staff from leisure centres around the country attended the gala event which honours the work of staff like those in the Brandon House Hotel. Ireland Active engages people to be more active more often - providing for a healthier nation.
