The Palms GP Surgery in Gorey has been presented with a health literacy quality mark in recognition of its commitment to providing a health literacy friendly service to patients

The Crystal Clear Mark is Ireland's first health literacy quality mark. It recognises the critical role general practitioners play in helping patients understand their health issues, and the steps they can take to improve their health. It has been developed by MSD and the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA).

In order to receive the Crystal Clear mark, the Palms surgery had to complete an online audit and submit evidence to show how the clinic was health literacy friendly. The audit was then assessed by NALA which concluded that The Palms qualified for the quality mark.

Practice manager Lynette Beechey from The Palms GP Surgery said that through the process, they learned that simple changes can make a big difference to the health of their patients. 'We are delighted to receive the Crystal Clear Mark,' she said. 'This will enable us to provide an even better level of service to our patients in the local area.'
