Gorey has been selected as one of three finalists for the prestigious title of Ireland's Friendliest Place.

The town was nominated by Wexford County Council for the award which is given by Retail Excellence Ireland. Gorey Chamber celebrated the news recently at a lunch in Partridges Bistro where the town's ambassadors for the award were named.

'We are thrilled that Gorey has been selected,' said Gorey Chamber CEO Dick White. 'The judging was intensive and covered a broad range of areas including customer service, shop fronts, the urban street-scape in addition to other criteria.'

'For all of us here in Gorey, it is recognition of the hard work and dedication of the business community,' he said. The nine ambassadors included in the mystery judging were: Pettitt's SuperValu; Ruby Rouge; Munchkins Toy Store; Redmond Electric; Azure Beauty; Myles Doyle Select Grocer; The Duck at Marlfield; Eco Pizzeria and Restaurant; and Funges.

The other finalists are Navan and Ennis, and the winner will be announced on November 5.
