A GOREY institution on Main Street, Myles Doyle Select Grocer, was recently announced as the winner of Gorey Chamber's AIB North Wexford Retail Award for 2016.
A delighted John Doyle, who now runs the long-established grocer and fine wines shop, was presented with the award at a Chamber lunch in Seafield Hotel, Ballymoney.
Nine North Wexford retailers were in the running for this year's retail award including: Different Strokes; House of SOS; La Crème Boutique; Lily Bloom; Myles Doyle Select Grocer; Place; Tara Stores; The Gaslamp Gallery; and Whitmore Jewellers.
The awards are structured to allow the entire business sector, both Chamber members and non-members, to participate in the voting process and decide on the winner.
Keith Groarke, representing the competition's main sponsor AIB, gave details of each nominee before announcing the overall winner.
He told those present that retail is a very important economic sector in North Wexford and he was thrilled that nine retail businesses were put forward for this year's award.
He commented that Myles Doyle Select Grocer is very much a throwback to past times, but it has found its place wonderfully in the bustling retail environment in North Wexford.
John was presented with a pair of seaweed artworks created by Kate Tyrell from seaweed harvested on local beaches. They were sourced from the Market House Design shop in Gorey's Market House.
Each nominee was presented with a framed certificate which was kindly sponsored by The Gaslamp Gallery on Esmonde Street, Gorey.
