People's Choice salmon award for Ballyhack Smokehouse

Wexford Company Ballyhack Smokehouse, based in Arthurstown, has won another prestigious Irish Quality Food Award.

The award was announced and presented by Dr Tracey Larkin at the People's Choice Irish Quality Food and Drinks Awards ceremony, at Limerick Institute of Technology, Tuesday, April 25. 2016 winners of the Smoked Fish category for their premium product 'Ballyhack Smokehouse Wild Irish Smoked Salmon', the company entered into the very first 'People's Choice Awards' in February this year, where the winners of each category from 2016 were pitted against each other and judged by a diverse panel of 50 consumers.

Owner and operator of Ballyhack Smokehouse Michael Walsh said: 'We were delighted to be among the shortlisted ten finalists which included four products from Dunnes Stores, four products from Tesco and one from Hogan's Farm, Charlesfort. It was an excellent achievement to be announced winner of the small producers award and after tight voting to also take second to Tesco's for the overall Consumer Choice Award.'

On winning both awards, Mr Walsh said: 'We feel it is a great recognition of our product by Irish food experts and consumers and makes all our passion and long hours spent perfecting this product worthwhile.'
