Saltmills chef plans pink as'salt' on tasty food lovers market
A SALTMILLS based chef has launched an as'salt on the gourmet salt market with a series of interesting milled salts.
Charlene Hiscock - a trained chef and nutrition adviser - wanted to find a healthier alternative to table salt - which is how her business Salann came about.
Using Himalayan sea salt which contains the same 84 minerals/elements found in the body, Charlene combines it with the aromatic healing properties of pure edible essential oils.
Charlene said: 'If you season your food, you may as well use the good stuff.'
The salt crystals are larger than ordinary table salt so you need to use less of our salt to achieve a similar effect.
Ms Hiscock said: 'The edible essential oils we use go through rigorous testing to ensure their purity and as they are highly concentrated, we only use a few drops in each blend.'
Among the flavoured salts Salann sells are: basil and lime, bergamot, lemon and lime, coriander, lemon and lime, an Italian blend containing basil, marjoram and oregano, a lemon and lime salt, lemon and thyme and a Mediterranean blend using oregano, thyme, rosemary and marjoram. The salts are available at numerous shops across the region.
