Two Wexford cheese scooped top awards at the Irish Cheese Awards.

Glanbia Consumer Foods won the awards with its Wexford Cheddar - Mild & Creamy winning Class One which was Creamery Mild Cheddar Aged Up To Six Months. Wexford Cheddar - Rich & Mature won Class Two - which was Creamery Mature Cheddar Aged Six Months Plus.

The results were announced at the inaugural Irish Cheese Awards Ceremony and dinner in The Grainstore, Ballymaloe House, Co Cork recently.

36 Irish cheesemakers were honoured at the awards which are the most prestigious awards in the Irish cheese industry calendar.

The Irish Cheese Awards is the only competition dedicated entirely to Irish cheese and cheesemakers. 145 cheeses from 29 companies from all over Ireland were judged in 12 classes by a panel of experts.

The panel of judges decided that Mount Leinster Clothbound cheese produced by Coolattin Cheddar from Co Carlow was the overall winner on the night.
