Wexford retailers are estimating that business for December was five per cent higher than the same period last year, according to Chairperson of the Wexford Retail Group Michael Hayes.
Although Retail Ireland anticipated a 3.5 per cent increase in consumer spending for December, retailers in Wexford are said to be confident that they have exceeded this. Mr Hayes praised the combined efforts of various groups for the suggested jump in business.
'Free County Council parking, the Winterland Christmas parade and the official turning of the town's festive lighting all greatly assisted Wexford businesses,' he said.
