On September 4, 2015 a beautiful, gentle, caring mother and grandmother lost her fight against illness at the early age of 60.
Carmel Hayes, from Ballygoman, Barntown and formerly Abblintown, Murrintown passed away as she spent her life surrounded by her loving children and family members. In life Carmel devoted herself to her family.
In January 2013, only three months after the sudden death of her beloved husband Kevin, Carmel was diagnosed with breast cancer and following treatment had been well until a recent return visit when the news that the cancer had returned and her sudden passing only eight days later left the family devastated. Carmel was the daughter of the late Tom and Sheila Morris and had nine siblings Terry, Deirdre, Vincent, Abban, Conal, Gaye, Sheila, Gerard and Kenneth. She attended Murrintown National School and the Presentation Secondary School in Wexford following which at 17 years old she began working at Spar (now Pettit's). Carmel started her family when she was 19 Carmel had five children Karen, Lorraine, Fiona, Jenny and Brian. Carmel and Kevin were married 38 years prior to his sudden passing in October 2012 and Carmel departed this life on the same date that she had first met Kevin. Carmel devoted her time to her grandchildren, all 13 of them, Dan, Courtney, Ben, Conor, Alannah, Sophie, Josh, Ciara, Tegan, Killian, Geordan, Hannah and Darcy. Once news of their pending arrival was announced Carmel, who was an avid hand knitter got out her needles and began the baby cardigans and blankets. Such was her love of knitting that Carmel and Kevin both wore hand knit cardigans when they were buried.
Carmel is sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, other family members and friends.
