The communities of Oulart and Monamolin were united in grief at the weekend as they said a final farewell to popular family man David O'Brien.
Forty-one-year-old David died suddenly on Thursday of a suspected heart attack on board a ferry from Cherbourg. He was returning home from his job in Holland to celebrate his 17th wedding anniversary with his wife Yvonne. David cherished the time he got to spend with Yvonne and their 14-year-old daughter Katie. The son of Jack and Anne, David worked with local contractor Shane Fox.
David comes from a strong GAA background and he himself played for Buffers Alley to Junior grade. He also did some refereeing. As a mark of respect for David both Buffer's Alley and Oulart-The Ballagh GAA clubs formed a guard of honour at his funeral on Sunday.
David was buried in Oulart on Sunday morning after Requiem Mass in St. Patrick's Church. He is survived by his wife Yvonne, daughter Katie, parents Jack and Anne, brother Sean, sisters Lisa and Danielle, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of family and friends.
