The Wexford community lost a true lady when Rita O'Reilly (née Daly) of 37 Whiterock View passed away on March 6.

At the age of 96, Rita was the oldest member on her street at the time of her passing. She lived a happy and fulfilled life up until the end.

Born on July 24 1919 on Joseph's Street, Rita was the daughter of Edward and Margaret Daly. She had three brothers, Jack, Freddie and Tony and a sister Angela.

Rita later met Paddy O'Reilly from Ferns. The pair went to England during the 1940s to find work and it was there that they married in 1944. Their ceremony took place in the Roman Catholic Church in Reading.

Though she never had any children, family was extremely important to Rita. When her parents became unwell, she moved home from England and devoted her time to caring for them. Her kind-hearted and generous nature will long be remembered by all who knew her.

Gardening was one of Rita's main passions and she spent much of her spare time making her garden look well. She also took great pride in her home, which she kept in pristine condition.

Family and friends described Rita as a 'real lady' who loved fashion. She always ensured that she looked her best, no matter what the occasion.

When Rita sadly lost her beloved Paddy six years ago, she went to live with her niece Rita. At the age of 93, she went to live in Kerlogue Nursing Home, where she lived peacefully for her remaining three years.

Rita will be sadly missed by her nieces Rita, Antoinette and Angela; nephew Frankie; sister-in-law Nancy and Irene Daly, extended family and friends. Her funeral took place at the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street followed by burial in St Ibar's Cemetery Crosstown.

May she rest in peace.
