Cabaret on way to the Electric Picnic
WEXFORD GROUP ON FESTIVAL LINE-UP
WEXFORD WILL BE well-represented at this year's Electric Picnic through the Cáca Milis Cabaret.
The popular cabaret, presented by Helena Mulkerns at the Wexford Arts Centre each month since January 2009 and recently supported by the Arts Council, will be performing at this year's Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, Co Laois.
Scheduled for a prime two-hour slot on Saturday evening on The Salon Stage in the 'MindField' arena, the cabaret will present an all-Wexford line-up of performers and material, with some surprise guests to complete the list on the night.
The cabaret's confirmed Electric Picnic line-up thus far includes fiction from Peter Murphy, music from Martina Keane and bands The Darling Sins and Ripcord 64, a comic short film from Laura Way, cutting edge animation and of course there will be dance from the beautiful Khelashi Dance belly dancers.
MC and chanteuse Helena Mulkerns will be accompanied as usual by Wexford pianist Cyril Murphy to deliver jazz and cabaret classics.
'We're really pleased that the cabaret is going to the picnic,' said Elizabeth Whyte, Director of Wexford Arts Centre. 'It's one of the best festivals in Europe, and a great opportunity.'
New this year, The Salon Stage aims to provide a chilled out space for events like the storytelling and games of Chaos Thaoghaire, Salon du Chat's speed debating and the highly risqué Chatroulette Bingo hosted by Heidi Konnt as well as Comic Book Heroes - a round table conversation on comics and graphic novels with the legendary creator of 2000AD, Pat Mills
While this is the first time the Cáca Milis Cabaret will appear outside Wexford Arts Centre, Ms Whyte revealed there are plans to take the show on the road later this year and in 2011, to other venues around the country.
At the next Wexford gig, on September 24, The Culture Night Cabaret will celebrate the fact that it has had over 100 performers so far since its inception. The 100th performer – to be announced that night - will be presented with a special prize.
The Cáca Milis Cabaret will be performing on The Salon Stage from 6 to 8 .p.m on Saturday, September 4 at the MindField arena of Electric Picnic.
