A CAPACITY crowd turned up at White's Hotel last Saturday for Wexford's first ever cage fighting event, billed as 'Hell's Rage', which proved to be a sell-out attraction.
The hotel function room, which is more often used for weddings and concerts, was transformed into a fight arena complete with steel cage and ringside seats.
The spectators, split equally between men and women, were treated to 15 fights by skilled martial arts experts from around Ireland, including a few from Wexford who are members of the Wexford Mixed Martial Arts Club run by osteopath and coach Mark Porter
The local fighters included Karl Homes from Duncormick, who won his contest through a knock-out after six seconds from Felim Burke of Dublin's Kokoro Club.
Brian Moore, also from Duncormick who is an All-Ireland champion boxer, won his fight with a rear naked choke from Alan Duffy of SBG Club.
Relative newcomer Levi Kehoe fought bravely but was choked out by Patrick Sherwood of Kokoro and Bartek Czuk, also based in Wexford was winning against Josh Coughlan of Kokoro only to lose out after being arm-barred.
Due to the phenomenal interest in last week's cage fight, the promoters Tuffnutt Promotions, comprising Wexfordman Peter Wickham and his Kilkenny-based partner, are planning another event in August and are also in negotiations to bring high-profile cage fighters to the south east.
