36 Wexford guests join Lions' holiday trip
Wexford Lions Club hosted a group of 36 local guests on a week-long holiday in Trabolgan, last week.
They joined more than 660 guests from all over the country at the annual Lions holiday.
The Wexford group was made up of older members of the community and younger adults who attend ReHab and the County Wexford Community Workshop.
This is the 36th year of the annual project for people who would otherwise not enjoy a vacation and it is supported by Lions Clubs from all over Ireland. Guests were transported by their host clubs and spent an activity-packed week in the holiday village where they participated in competitions, games and coach tours.
Events included dancing, competitions, supervised aqua aerobics, a daily walking challenge, bus tours and shows each evening. Minibuses and buggies transported those with walking difficulties and medical assistance, including an Order of Malta mobile unit.
Wexford Lions Club President, Willie Roche said the Holiday Project was initiated in 1981 and over the years Lions Clubs have hosted an annual holiday for many thousands of guests, many of whom are senior citizens with additional needs.
The project is funded by Lions Clubs throughout the country, and in accordance with Lions International ethics, all funds raised go directly to this and other service projects, with Lions members taking responsibility for all administration.
