A great time of year to initiate change
I love this time of year. We have strong natural vitality and more energy than at other times. The days have over fourteen hours of full sun light and they are getting longer. It is so much easier to get out of bed. It's warmer. We have more pep in our step. People are in better form. They are more sociable and fun. It is easier to do things and get things done.
Overall, we have more energy to do what we want, make positive changes and create new things. And the best part is that the days will continue to lengthen for the next 2 months.
Because of all this, it is a great time of year to initiate changes or start new things. Many people make new year's resolutions. If you did and let them slide like more than 90 percent of the population and they are still relevant, now is a great time to take them out, dust them off and apply or move towards them. Or take a bit of time over the next week to reflect on what changes are most important to you and would benefit you most now. Steady incremental change lasts longer. If you improve something by one percent every day, over a year this will lead to a 3800 percent improvement because of compounding. Slow and steady always wins the race in the long-run.
Because of the better weather and people being in better moods, in Ireland, we can often be more inclined to sit back and enjoy lazy days rather than making the most of our increased vibrancy. Sometimes we just need a small 'excuse' to take things easy. My suggestion is to do both - enjoy the beauty and fun but also push yourself a little more to achieve whatever it is you want to achieve.
In order to be in the best shape and mind-set making changes, looking after yourself and your wellbeing is key. This will give you the right foundation for sustained success. If you are not exercising, this is a great time to start. Nature is so stunning at this time of year. It is literally inviting us to be out, moving around and be part of it and part of life.
Feeling good physically will make you feel good and more productive in every way. It balances and strengthens the body. A morning walk is ideal but the main thing is to choose something or a range of activities you enjoy doing and do them regularly. Eating healthier food will further enhance. So will meditation which balances and strengthens the mind and makes it more flexible. Having enough sleep will make you ensure you are in the right frame for positive change.
It often surprises me that we expect so much of ourselves in peak winter when we are at our lowest and nature is resting. When nature and the environment is supporting us that is when we can do the most.
The time to drive yourself is always when you are at your best. Act today to get the most from your efforts. If you have things you want to do, start. Over the next four months, you will have more energy to do things than in the other 8 months of the year combined. Make the most of it and enjoy too. Fire up your mind and your life as well as the barbecue. The time is NOW.
