Congratulations to Michelle, elder daughter of Marian and Michael Kehoe, Kereight, Crossabeg, whose marriage to Michael Costello took place in Claremorris, Co. Mayo recently. The reception for family and friends took place at Ashford Lodge, Cong, Co. Mayo.

Condolences

We extend our condolences to Mr Tim Carr (formerly of Sion, Crossabeg and family, on the death of his wife Anne (née Turbett) Goresbridge, Co. Kilkeny, which occured on June 6 Her funeral Mass took place in Goresbridge on Friday, June 9, with cremation at Newlands Cross crematorium. RI.P.

Summer Solstice

The Hope Cancer Support Centre will hold their annual summer Solstice 5K Walk and Ceremony of Light and Healing on Curracloe Beach this Wednesday, June 21, at 8 p.m. All are invited to go along and be part of this very special ceremony and to enjoy a peaceful and serene walk on this beautiful beach.

Athletics

St Killian's Athletic club were represented by Amy and Jack Forde, Paul Freeman and Euan McLaughlin at the Leinster juvenile championships in Tullamore on Saturday and Sunday last, and they came home with six medals.

Jack Forde had a particularly good outing. On Saturday, he took gold in in the under-15 High Jump (equalling is PB with a jump of 1.70m) and gold also in the Inter-County Relay final. His sister Amy finished in the bronze medal position in the under-18 Discus with a throw of 27.20m. Paul Freeman made his debut at the Leinsters, and competed well, running a very good 800m in the under-17 category On Sunday we saw more medals coming home for St Killian's.

Amy Forde continued her good work winning a silver in the under-18 Hammer. Jack Forde added another two Leinster gold medals to his list, winning the under-15 Shot Putt and the under-15 Triple Jump competitions, taking his tally to four golds over the two-day day event with three PBs.

Euan McLaughlin made his debut in Leinster and finished in fourth place in the under-16 Javelin competition, thus qualifying for the national finals. He also competed well in the Shot Putt, making it to the final eight. Congratulations to all on their hard work and dedication.

Collection

Many thanks from the local Community Games committee to all who subscribed to their annual church gate collection held recently. It is much appreciated.

Community Games

Best of luck to all the boys and girls competing in the county finals of the Community Games athletic events at the Hub in Enniscorthy on Sunday next, June 25, Competitors are reminded that they must be in attendance at the grounds by 9.30 a.m. in preparation for the finals. Area singlets will be provided by the local committee. Parents are asked to help out during the day and have their children ready to participate.

Winners last week at Kyle Forge were Betty Shanahan, Caitriona Cullen, Betty Butler, Kathleen Higgins, John Meagher and Mollie Murphy.

Athletics

At the Wexford Primary Schools Sports day held at the Hub in Enniscorthy on Wednesday of last week, pupils from Crossabeg national school excelled and delivered in very stiff competition.

Kayla Doyle took silver in the 80m under-eight final; Kara Morrissey took silver in the 80m under-10 final; Eimear Halpin took silver in the 400m under-14 final; Luke Corrigan took bronze in the Long Jump under-13 and Ava Doyle took silver in the under-9 Long Jump.

The girls under-10 Relay team of Chloe Reck, Kara Morrissey, Christina Molloy and Aoife McEldowney took the gold medals and the under-14 mixed Relay team of Luke Corrigan, Eamonn Moran, Aisling Murphy and Eimear Halpin took the silver medals.

There were many others who gave good accounts of themselves but just missed out on the medal placings.

Glenbrien

Cake sale

There will be a cake sale in the old school centre on Pattern Sunday, June 25, along with tea andcoffee. All the proceeds will go towards the church and the Women's Refuge, free raffle on the day to all those who pay a visit.

If you would like to donate cakes and buns for the sale, please drop them into the centre on Sat evening before or after Mass and again in the morning before and after Mass and before the ceremonies begin.

Volunteers needed to help with the cake sale and tea and coffee on the Sunday. If you would like to help or have any donations you would like to give please contact Edel Kelly at 086 3131711 and Sinéad Carthy at 087 7538041.

The show committee wish to extend their sympathy to the family of the late Paddy Banville, Barryscross, Taghmon on their recent bereavement. Paddy was a long time supporter of the Castlebridge show. May he rest in peace.

Garden Evening

Castlebridge Show committee are holding a garden evening with Syl Doyle of Wilton nursery, Bree on Wednesday, July 5, in the Community Garden, Castlebridge, commencing at 8 p.m. His talk will include advice on fruit trees and pruning. He will also have a selection of plants for sale. Tea and coffee will be served after the talk and admission is free.

Cúl Camp

The Shelmalier Cúl Camp for hurling, football and camogie takes place from July 17 to July 21 (week 1) and week two from July 31 to August 4 the days will be packed with fun, games, skills and friendships. They are held daily from 10 a.m till 2.30 p.m. The cost is €60 for the first child, €50 for the second and €40 thereafter. The cost is only €35 for the second week (no gear).

Summer soccer Camp

The FAI summer soccer camp is back for six- to 14-year-old boys and girls from August 7 to August 11 and takes place at Bridge Rovers AFC. Book now on summersoccerschools.ie. Book early as this camp sold out last year.

Development lotto

results of the Curracloe United lotto for Sunday, June 19, as follows. The numbers drawn were 11, 19, 24 and 28. There was no jackpot winner and one match-three winner, Aidan McGuire, Ballina, Curracloe, who won €150. Next week's jackpot stands at €7,000 and the draw takes place in the Curracloe Roadhouse on Sunday, June 25, at 9 p.m.

Community Games

A reminder to all children who qualified for the county finals of the Community Games athletic events, that they should attend for training at the community field in Crossabeg every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. They are also welcome along during the Thursday evening training sessions. The county finals take place at the Hub in Enniscorthy on Sunday, June 25, and all athletes are asked to be in attendance by 9.30 a.m.

Curracloe national school welcomed their new Junior Infants for the first of two visits on June 13 For further enrolment information please contact the school at 053 9137283 or visit the website info@curracloens.ie.

On Tuesday, June 27, the Graduation ceremony will take place at 10.15 a.m. Fr Kelly will celebrate the school Mass in Curracloe church.

Heather from the Dogs Trust and her dog Ted recently visited the school to deliver a workshop to all the children. The workshop introduced the theme of responsible dog ownership and the children learned how the Dogs Trust look after dogs. It was a very informative and educational experience for everyone.

Well done to recent split-the-pot Winners Amy and Laura Canning (€200) and David Fenton (€207). Sincere thanks to everyone who generously supported the draw over the last school year. A special word of thanks also to local businesses for their support. The draw will resume in September.

Oylegate

Patron Change of Date

Due to the large number of Oylegate parishioners intending to travel to the Leinster Hurling Final in Croke Park on Sunday, July 2, the patron will now take place on Saturday, July 1, at 6 p.m.

Smart Kidz playschool is opening in September 2017. It is located two miles from Oylegate and Glenbrien just off the main N11 road. In a country location where the children will get to meet a variety of farm animals. ECCE Scheme places will be available for children from three to five years Monday to Friday from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. Children from aged two 1/2 can also attend for a fee of €5 per hour. There will be options for early drop offs and late collections.
