RETIRED school teacher Billy Sweetman launched Ballymurn Heritage Group's Rising commemorative book in the Community Hall last Thursday night.

'Ballymurn 1916 Before, During and After' is set around events in 1916, but was broadened out to include more general articles about the life and times in the village.

Researched and compiled by Martina Boylan, it runs to 80 pages and includes a large number of contemporary photographs, including some of local sporting legends.

The launch night was celebrated with music, song and dance.

It's interesting to note that while Ballymurn (the referred to as Ballymurrin) had a company of seven Volunteers in 1916, whether they took part in the Rising cannot be determined.
