A new BBC spinoff series based on Colm Toibin's novel Brooklyn will ensure that the story of Eilis Tracey will live on, not only in Enniscorthy but across the globe.
Following the success of her Oscar-nominated film, Kiwi producer Finola Dwyer has revealed that a spinoff series is in the works. According to Dwyer, she discussed the possibility of the series with Colm Toibin, pictured, long before the film was made.
Brooklyn tells the take of a homesick young woman called Eilis (played by Saoirse Ronan) from Enniscorthy who is trying to get to grips with life in 1950's New York after she emigrates. The BBC series will centre around the New York boarding house where Eilis stays.
District Manager of Enniscorthy Mr Padraig O'Gorman welcomed the news on the new series. 'While we realise that most of it will be based in America, it would be fantastic if it opened up opportunities for some scenes to be filmed in Enniscorthy.'
