FORMER Broadway woman Gretta O'Connor is making waves as an Ironwoman and is in training for her third international Ironman competition in Canada in July.

Daughter of Myles and Anne O'Connor from Allenstown Big, Broadway, Gretta left Wexford in 2005 to join the Irish Defence Force and is stationed at Aiken Barracks in Dundalk, County Louth.

The 31-year-old has two proud sisters, Sally Lawler and Eileen O'Connor, who describe her as amazing.

She has completed two full Ironman competitions, Austria in 2012 and Lanzarote in 2014 and has completed many middle distance triathlons, most recently in June, when she undertook the Tri An Mhi in West Meath, swimming 1,900m, cycling 93km and running 21.1km. With a time of five hours 20 minutes, she was the second female across the line.

Gretta is currently in training for Ironman Canada which takes place on July 26 and will involve a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle, and a run of 42.2km. She and her boyfriend Sean, who is also a keen cyclist, are travelling to Canada a few days before the race.
