ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Wednesday February 17 2010

BRIAN MCKENNA is a busy man. A dedicated and committed family man, he is the guide and mentor for children in Glynn parish through is role as school headmaster.

Not only that but he is highly active with the Association of Parents and Friends of the Severely Intellectually Disabled, and is also founder and current chairman of Curracloe United AFC.

A man 100 per cent committed to everything he is involved in, he is a driving force behind a lot of community work in his parish.

An individual with selflessness and empathy at his core, Brian became involved with the Parents and Friends of the Severely Intellectually Disabled when his late son Eoghan became a resident in St. John of God House.

Brian became a voice for all the residents and families, and together they formed the New Dawn Housing Association, which provides state-of-the-art housing for residents.

He has worked tirelessly and canvassed endlessly for the cause, bringing people on board and receiving contributions from numerous sources.

Brian has also been involved with Curracloe's soccer club since it was formed, and is the current chairman.

Again one of the driving forces in the club, his foresight has helped to make it one of the most modern in the county, with their state-of-the-art fitness club that is much in demand.

As a school principal he has a great rapport with the 214 children, whom he treats with respect and love. His devotion to his staff is also evident, and he is a friend and confidante to anyone who seeks his help and support.
