Gretta's will of iron takes her to world championships
A former Broadway woman has proved she has the right stuff after qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October.
Gretta O'Connor came second in her division in the recent Ironman Canada, her fantastic placing qualifying her for a crack at the world title.
She completed the Canada Ironman in 11 hours and 5 minutes, which breaks down as: Breakdown; Swim 3.8km - 1:02:57; Bike 180km - 6:10:48 and Run 42km - 3:45:07
The daughter of Myles and Anne O'Connor from Allenstown Big, Broadway, Gretta left Wexford in 2005 to join the Irish Defence Force and is stationed at Aiken Barracks in Dundalk, County Louth. The 31-year-old has two proud sisters, Sally Lawler and Eileen O'Connor, who describe her as amazing.
Canada is Gretta's third Ironman and follows her success in Austria in 2012 and Lanzarote in 2014 and has completed many middle distance triathlons, including the Tri An Mhi in West Meath, swimming 1,900m, cycling 93km and running 21.1km. With a time of five hours 20 minutes, she was the second female across the line.
