SEVERAL Wexford companies hoping to break into the Irish and export markets recently took part in the showcase creative expo at the RDS.

Small Irish craft businesses from Wexford, supported by Wexford County Enterprise Board, made a big impression on domestic and international buyers in the show's 'Enterprise Zone'.

Co-ordinated by the County and City Enterprise Boards, the 'Enterprise Zone' is part of the expo, which is organised by the Craft Council of Ireland and supported by Enterprise Ireland.

A total of 93 small craft businesses from 22 counties exhibited in the Enterprise Zone this year, many for the first-time, operating in sectors such as textiles, cosmetics, fashion, giftware, candles, ceramics, homewares, accessories and jewellery.

In 2010, the County and City Enterprise Boards supported 35 small businesses at Showcase through subsidised stands, rising to 50 in 2011 and 57 in 2012, before reaching 75 craft businesses last year.
