More success for Wexford writers

It's tremendously exciting times for FOCAL - Wexford Literary Festival, as one of its authors Paul O'Brien has signed a four book deal with Skyhorse Publishing LLC in New York with agent Tracy Brennan, and at the heart of the deal is the global rights for Paul's trilogy Blood Red Turns Dollar Green.
Not bad for the Maudlintown man who by his own admission spent many of his schooldays shall we say 'As lathair'!
Paul and Tracy met at the very first FOCAL Festival in 2014 where Tracy - a well known American agent - gave 10 minute slots of her very precious time to new and aspiring writers to pitch their short stories and/or novels to her. From those hurried and humble beginnings Tracy has gone on to sign with Enniscorthy writer Caroline Busher and Kildare writer Joan Brady and is at present plying their manuscripts to Publishing Houses in the States.
At the 2015 Focal Festival in June Tracy attended our Open Mic Event at the IFA Centre where once again new and aspiring writers were given an opportunity to read from their work in front of a live audience and lo and behold Tracy was once more impressed with a Wexford writer Cat Hogan whose crime novel 'Hooked' is with Tracy being pitched to Literary Establishments Stateside.
All amazing achievements for a festival and a festival committee in its infancy.
The committee is also eagerly awaiting the launch of founding member Carmel Harrington's third novel 'Every Time A Bell Rings' due for release in November. Carmel has also recently signed another two book deal with the HarperCollins Publishing House.
Simply wonderful success stories and we at Focal are delighted that the Festival is achieving exactly what it set out to achieve - the encouragement and promotion of local authors, poets and playwrights.
As part of the ongoing calendar of events Focal is hosting an Open Mic Night at the Presentation Art Centre on October 3 where once again aspiring writers, songwriters, poets, playwrights and actors are encouraged to come along and perform their work in front of a live audience.
It promises to be a most entertaining event packed with local bards and scribes and MC'd by Carmel Harrington and Caroline Busher, tickets at €5 can be booked at the Presentation so please put the date in your diary and support and encourage local talent and creativity.
