Music and song at celebration for late Leo Carthy
the annual and very successful Leo Carthy Weekend took place at the Our Lady's Island community centre recently, celebrating the life and times of one of Wexford's best-loved county councillors.
The late Leo was a mummer of some distinction and on Saturday, the weekend took the form of a celebration of traditional Irish music and song.
With Alan Corcoran as MC, performers includes the Danecastle Music Group, The Temple Michael Ceili Band, Yvette Walsh, George Lawlor, Brendan Wickham and Co, Paddy Scallan, Martina Keane and Imelda Kehoe and comedy with the Ballycogley Players.
On Sunday, and despite the inclement weather, there was a well-attended fun run for adults and children to raise funds.
'It was a great turnout for the fifth successive year,' said Leo's son Cllr Ger Carthy.
'There was a great turnout for the concert on Saturday night with local groups participating. Sunday was successful too and the weather didn't dampen the spirits,' he said.
Those benefitting from the weekend are the local national school, the community creche, the local GAA club and the Irish Heart Foundation.
