A solo exhibition of installation, sculpture and video work called 'Beyond Violet' by Emerging Visual Artist award winner Sibyl Montague will be officially opened in Wexford Arts Centre on Saturday, June 25 at 3 p.m. and will run until August 13.
Ms. Montague won the award sponsored by the Arts Council, Wexford County Council and the Arts Centre in 2012 and is now claiming the second part of her prize - the chance to have her own full show across two galleries in the Arts Centre. She also received €5,000.
The Emerging Visual Artist Award is a joint initiative which aims to support visual artists in Ireland by funding them to produce and exhibit a body of work.
'Beyond Violet' refers to the light situated beyond the visible spectrum, violet being the highest frequency of visible light.
The exhibition looks at base materialism and capital within larger networks and economies relating to consumer goods, user experience and brands. The artist explores themes associated with consumption and abundance, presenting everyday materials in a way that de-familiarises them.
Currently based in Dublin, she did a Masters degree in Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art in London. She has exhibited at galleries in Ireland and the U.K. and has won several awards.
She is co-founder and co-curator of Plastik, a Festival of Artists' Moving Image
