Ten charities shared the proceeds from this re-release of 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me'. Written by Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin, the song was first released in 1974 as the first single from Elton's album 'Caribou'. It failed to make the top ten in either the UK or Ireland, but did reach No.2 in the U.S. The more successful 1991 re-release was a reprise of Elton John and George Michael's duet of the song at Live Aid in 1985. Elton had come on as a surprise guest at the former Wham singer's final show at Wembley Arena in London in March, 1991, and the live recording of that duet was released as a charity single. A massive hit this time around, it reached number one in many countries, including the UK and the U.S.
