Instrumentals were far more popular in the early years of the music charts than in later years. Between 1953 and 1970, 19 tracks without vocals topped the UK charts; after that just six reached the top. 'Eye Level'. the theme tune for Thames Television's Netherlands-based crime drama 'Van der Valk', was originally released in 1972 but achieved No.1 on re-release a year later, buoyed up by the success of the series. It was the only hit for Englishman Park, though he did compose the music for a number of TV programmes in the 1970s and 1980s.
