This Christmas number one from1986 was still topping the charts in the second week of January 1987. When soul singer Jackie Wilson, who was nicknamed 'Mr Excitement', recorded 'Reet Petite' as his first release as a solo singer after leaving The Dominoes in 1957, it reached number 6 in the UK charts. Just under three decades later, the song rocketed to number one after its reissue following the showing of a clay animation video featuring the song on BBC Two series 'Arena'. At the time, this was the longest interval between a song's chart debut and it reaching No. 1. Sadly, Jackie Wilson did not bask in the limelight of his new-found stardom as he had died in 1984 at the age of 49 after a number of years of ill health.
