It's hard to believe that the late, great Gene Pitney's only number one was his duet with Marc Almond. The Soft Cell singer was only nine years of age when Pitney first released 'Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart' in 1967. That single was a No. 5 hit in the UK but didn't even break into the top 100 in the singer's native U.S. Almond recorded the song himself for 1988 solo album 'The Stars We Are' but his duet with original singer Pitney was the better choice for release. It was the last chart hit for Gene Pitney who died in Cardiff in 2006, aged 66, of a heart attack while touring the UK.
