Wednesday February 17 2010

SÉAMUS O'KEEFFE has been described as a 'titan' for his community work.

A former Kilmore Parish person in the year, he has been involved behind the scenes in practically every organisation to emerge from the village of Kilmore.

For the last 37 years Séamus has been on the committee of the Kilmore Parish Journal. Indeed, his knowledge of the area is enshrined in many wellresearched articles, and form a vital record for future generations.

Séamus has had a long association with Muintir na Tíre, serving in many positions, including chairman, secretary and treasurer.

He always did a tremendous amount of work during the Tomhaggard Carnival, and at one point was very involved in the restoration of the AOH Hall in Bridgetown.

Macra na Feirme has also benefitted from his efforts, and he served both at branch level and on the county executive.

A pioneer all his life, Seamus was also very involved with the Kilmore Branch of the PTAA.

A man you can always depend on, Séamus has given his life to his community, embracing every aspect of it from sport to youth work, heritage and championing the aged.
