MAUDLINTOWN man, Darragh O'Leary was the toast of his friends last week as he celebrated his 21st birthday. Darragh, who is the son of Theresa and Sean O'Leary from Gulbar Road, celebrated his coming of age with a party in Jack Baileys. Among those in attendance were his sister Andrea and his girlfriend Ciara Haugh, along with many of Darragh's friends from the intermediate team of St. Mary's of Maudlintown GFC.

AILSING FENLON'S 18TH IN SOUTH 51

Aisling Fenlon took a break from her leaving cert studies to let her hair down on Friday night at an 18th birthday bash in South 51. Aisling, from Kennedy Park, is the daughter of Joe and Clare Fenlon and younger sister to Shane. According to her dad, Joe there was ' a big crowd' at the party and Aisling had a 'great night'.

CASTLEBRIDGE CHAP, Neil O'Briain had a smashing time in McDonalds on Friday night as he celebrated his 21st birthday. Neil is the son of Denis and Breda O'Briain, and is brother to Donnacadh and Sandra who travelled from Lonon and Dublin respectively to attend the birthday bash. Neil's girlfriend Gill Cullen also travelled home to Wexford from Wales, where she is studying to attend the party.

The death occured on Thursday of last week, after a long battle with illness, of Margaret Murphy (nee Carr), Mulgannon, Sion and later Maypark, Crossabeg. Her funeral Mass took place in Crossabeg church on Saturday last with burial afterwards in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery. Predeceased by her parents, Jack and May Carr, and infant sister Mary, she is survived by her husband Owen, son Damien, daughters Isobel (Kent, England) Ruth (Morris, Bulgan) and Debbie (Mulgannon) sons-in-law, brother Tim, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to whom we offer our condolences.

Following the recent success of the Senior Citizens protest march across Dublin in 2009, every Monday from now until April 26 will be Senior Citizens Day. This means that every Monday Senior Citizens can spend the day at the GAA Museum and take a guided tour of Croke Park Stadium for only E5 (half price). There will also be a discount of 10% in the museum cafe.

Food Dudes: Barntown School has decided to participate in the Food Dudes Healthy Eating Programme. The programme aims to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables and the children are given sum raw vegetables and a piece of fruit daily. Phase 1 which commenced last week has been going down a bomb. The kids are loving it and have been awarded plenty of exciting goodies for their efforts. The programme takes only a small amount of time in school, but will hopefully result in health benefits for all who participate. We hope parents and the children have fun with the Food Dudes!

The guild held their monthly meeting on March 1. The guild president Breda Banville welcomed all present. Sympathies were extended to Mary Margaret Roche, Sadie English, Margaret O'Gorman, the Dunne and Cadogen families, and all those recently bereaved. Fr. David Murphy was wished a speedy recovery, Kathleen Hickey and Dympna Kelly were welcomed back. The go for life activities are proving very popular having several enjoyable evenings bowling and currently in full swing with aqua aerobics. Maggie Morrisey was congratulated on winning 1st prize in the County ICA raffle, also Alice Codd on coming 2nd with her Christmas Card at the recent County Federation meeting.
