Well done to Con Doyle who received a nomination for the Best Supporting Actor and the Backstage Crew who also received a nomination. Well done to the entire cast and crew on putting on a most professional and enjoyable performance. We extend sympathy to families from our Parish who have suffered Bereavements recently. Bernie Wickham(nee Peppard), Portside, sadly passed away at St Vincent's Private Hospital on March 28th. A native of Hill Of Down, Co Meath, Bernie came to Rosslare Hbr in the early 70's to work in the Great Southern Hotel. She was a very kind and gentle lady and a very popular member of our community. To her husband Matt, daughters Margaret, Eileen and Gillian, Grandchildren, sons-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends we offer our Deepest Sympathy.
Condolences also to the Moloney family late of Tuskamore Ave, on the death of their father Jack, who sadly passed away at Kerlogue Nursing Home on April 4th. May, a native of Broadway came to live here when she married local Postman Mick Comerford. A huge well done to Ger Maloney who won the O55 title in the National 10K at the Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park! This a fantastic result for Ger and shows how well he is running at the moment!
We had 3 athletes compete in the Universities Track and Field in Belfast recently. Shane Connick was competing at his last varsity competition after many years of fine performances. Shane was going for the WIT record in the combined events and possible medal place after last years great performance. However it wasn't to be as Shane's niggling knee injury returned as he attempted the hurdles and he had to pull out. Shane leaves the varsitys with a WIT record in the 4x100m and many great memories!
Emma Owens competed in the shot on the first day, throwing well (8.16m) in an event that she hasnt trained for in years. Emma took to the Discus the following day and done well throwing 34.69 to finish in 4th place, her best in the varsitys to date! Emma earned valuable points leading to DCU winning the championships! Kieran Murphy had a busy 2 days. with PBs in the shot (9.92m). Weight for distance (6.65m) and Discus (29.59m) where he finished 5th, only 25cm off 3rd place! He also gained 6th place in the hammer. Well done to all athletes!
The Loreto championships were held last Thursday. Tara Connick was second in my discus. Maeve Hayes was first in her high jump and second in her 200m. Well done to both athletes!
