An important Open Meeting was held on Tuesday night 16th June. Topics for discussion were "Message in a Bottle" and "Fire-Safety in the Home & Community". Guest Speakers on the first topic were Sgt. John Kehoe, Gillian Lang & Stephaine Lang of Gorey & District Lions Club. The "Message in a Bottle" service to the community was introduced and explained to the attendance.
The special bottle with PIF (personal information form, containing accurate and vital medical information) is kept in the householder's fridge and in the event of an emergency is taken to hospital with the patient. The information enables quick and accurate decisions at the point of contact. Anyone who would like a bottle (free of charge) should contact Gorey Lions Club. Their email is: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The second guest, Aidan O'Connor spoke on Fire Safety in the Home & in the Community. This talk addressed issues about our ability to save ourselves & our family in the event of a fire and raised many important questions. How fast fire will travel in our dwellings? How are we protecting our homes & families? What about Smoke Alarms? Have we installed and serviced them? How many are needed and where should they situated?
This open meeting was very informative and the organisers and those in attendance were deeply appreciative of the input of Gorey Lions Club representatives and Mr. O'Connor.
And of course, if the information and assistance given at the meeting saves but one life or prevents a tragedy in the future, the efforts of the local Text Alert will have been very worthwhile. Our hard-working and dedicated Text Alert officers and committee are to be lauded for their ongoing service to the community.
The Ballagh Boxing Club
The Ballagh Boxing Club would like to thank everyone who sponsored them or played Golf in the recent Golf Classic in Enniscorthy. The event day was a great success and the club is now ready to proceed with applying for planning permission to build the new clubhouse behind the local primary school in The Ballagh.
Without the help and ongoing support of the local community this development would not be possible so sincere thanks is extended to everyone who assisted in any way.
