Story telling Group

A super night was had by the many people young and old who joined us in the Old School centre for our tenth year celebrations on Wed night. Thank you to the many of the loyal supporters who came from Arklow Wicklow and Carlow as well as the surrounding communites.

The night was a great success with in access of 70 people with recitations, yarns and songs and music from the younger people entertaining us on the acordian and the guitar to the regulars doing all the beautiful songs we know and love so well.

A special mention to those who have stayed with us over the past ten year and to those who were first timers on the night. We had a super Raffle on the night with door prizes over twenty five prizes some of which were donated by the Local Busineses, winners will be listed next week.

A huge thank you to those who donated cakes confectionary and raffle prizes, and to the people who looked after the teas and refreshments , it was very much appreciated. It's safe to say the Our Story telling group in Glenbrien is alive and well, and celebrated in style. Thanks to everyone again.

Oulart

Bereavement

The sympathy of the community of Oulart-The Ballagh is extended to Bridget and Aidan Moran and their daughters Aishling and Emma, Kilbride, The Ballagh on the death, last Wednesday 22nd July, of Bridget's mother, Mrs. Josephine Doherty, Coolnaleen, Glenmore, Co. Kilkenny. Burial took place on Friday 24th after Requiem Mass, in St. Paul's Church, Bigwood. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá hanam.

hurling league

In the semi-finals of the All County Hurling Leagues, Oulart-The Ballagh's three adult teams were in action. First into the fray were the Juniors, away to Rathnure, in the Division 5 county semi-final, on Friday 17th Oulart-The Ballagh were ahead coming up to full- time, only to be defeated by a point with the last stroke of the game.

On the following day, Saturday 18th July, our seniors were at home to Faythe Harriers, in the ACHL Division 1 county semi- final. Trailing by six points at the interval (9 points to 1 goal 12 points) Oulart-The Ballagh went down on a scoreline of 16 points to 1 goal 16, after a very lack-lustre performance. However, astute followers of the game will understand that ultimate success in the league is not the ambition of most teams.

On Sunday 19th July, the Division 2 county semi-final, featuring Oulart-The Ballagh and HWH/Bunclody was played in Oulart and resulted in a lucky one point win for the visitors. (1 goal 19 points to 2 goals 15 points). Great credit is due to all the players and their respective management teams on their consistency and progress to the knock-out stages of the leagues. Championship action resumes on the second weekend in August.

Under 21 Hurling

Our involvement in the Creane & Creane premier Under 21 hurling championship finally got under way on Tuesday 21st July when Oulart-The Ballagh were at home to Faythe Harriers. Supporters of the Red-and-Black were treated to a fine display of powerful defending, clever mid-field play and incisive scoring from our youthful stars and our up-and-coming players, all but three of whom will be eligible for the Under 21 grade next year.

In fairness to the opposition, most of their squad was very young too. Oulart-The Ballagh led at half-time by 1 goal 12 points to 11 points and thanks to a powerful second-half scoring-spree by full-forward Ogie Storey (2 goals 4 points) and immaculate free-taking by Billy Dunne they ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 3 goals 22 points to 13 points. Their next outing is away to Rathnure on Tuesday 28th July (tonight).

Book Launch

On Friday 17th July an extremely successful Book Launch was conducted, in Tracey's Hotel, Enniscorthy by a new and largely unknown author, Oulart resident, Ron Smith.

His work of fiction, "Stand Alone" deals with a nineteen year-old Multiple Sclerosis sufferer who is teamed with a golden Labrador and together they confront many difficulties and embark on many adventures. The book is brimful of relevant stories about Enniscorthy and questions its ease of access to wheelchair users.

"Stand Alone" received the following commendation from Amazon "This is an excellent novel with dozens of messages concerning Multiple Sclerosis and I recommend it to all. There is a deep insight into the issue of guide dogs and a wonderful twist at the end; all in all a great read". Another reviewer said "Very powerful and insightful. A strong recommendation to follow this new author."

Ron Smith's book "Stand Alone" is on sale in various outlets in Oulart, Kilmuckridge and Enniscorthy. Let us encourage all our new, would-be authors and support them as they deserve.

Camogie

Well done to the seniors on their championship win against Buffers Alley last week. Congratulations to our representatives on the Wexford senior team that had a good win away to Cork last week. Both Wexford and Cork advance to the quarter- finals of the championship that will be played next weekend.

Best wishes and speedy recovery to all club players, young and not so young, who are on the club's long injury list. Always remember that tough times don't last but tough people do!
