Ladies Football

The u16 ladies travelled to Ramsgrange to play st James in their last league game unfortunately it wasn't their night, but showed great determination and spirit, this was their first defeat of the year which now means they will play in a country semifinal later in the month (25th possibly) for the next few weeks training will intensify for the u14s (county final) and the u16s (co semifinal) see you all there. Good luck girls.

Star Lady

St Fintans girl Emily Coakley was the star of a very talented Wexford u-16 ladies football team that travelled to Clane to take on Letrim in the All Ireland u-16 C championship final. The Slaneysiders were on top throughout with Emily scoring 2-4 of the total of 4-7 thus earning herself the player of the match award. Well done Emily you are a credit to your club and County.

Senior Football

O'Kennedy Park New Ross was the venue when the St Fintans senior football team took on Fethard in a Tom Doyle supplies senior football championship group A game during the recent past. Fielding without a number of regulars the St Fintans were dealt two further blows early in the game when Brian Lacey was carried off injured and Padraig Doyle was black carded.

The number of injuries made the first half a stop start affair at the end of which St Fintans trailed 0-05 to 0-02 having missed a number of scoreable chances and having taken twenty minutes to register its first score. Fethard were still on top as the game entered the final quarter and although St Fintans trailed by just three points they could never bridge the gap and were eventually beaten 0-11 to 0-05. This defeat leaves them sharing bottom of the league with Wexford town side Sarsfields.

Underage Scene

The St Fintans/Our Ladys Island underage club has had a very busy couple of weeks with the u-16 hurling team traveling to Farmleigh to take on Castledockrell ,although trailing 1-08 to o-03 at the break gave a sterling second half display to run out winners 2-08 to 1-10. This victory leaves them top of the table with Ballyhogue after four games and will now play Buffersalley in Carne on August 17th at 7.30pm.

Camolin was the venue when the u-14 hurling team took on St Patricks in the New Ross Standard Coiste Na Nog div.4 championship and it took a sixty yards free in the dying minutes to earn St Patricks a draw. The boys from the Southeast trailed by one point at the break 1-03 to 1-02 but an excellent second half showing saw them lead by three points with just minutes remaining. The goal was a cruel blow for the team and the superb Jack O Leary in goal.

The u-12 hurling game versus Wygram Gales was cancelled on Wednesday night last and this was to be the final game before the knockout stages. The week was capped by a fine victory in the Wexford District u-21 final by the Forth And Bargy Gales when they defeated Blackwater at Innovate Wexford Park on a scoreline of 0-20 to 0-08. Well done all concerned.

Tractor Build

The St Fintans GAA club held its fundraising "tractor build"in the Danby Lodge on Saturday evening last when the four "wonder women"from the Rainbow Vintage Club Cavan rebuilt a Ferguson TVO tractor from scratch on three occasions. The club gave up its time for the fundraiser on the invitation of Willie Kelly and surprised us all with the speed of the assembly without the aid of power tools. They certainly gave us a night to remember with Rebecca Goff and Jack O'Leary guessing closest to the time taken to assemble the tractor.

The St Fintans club would like to say a big thank you to the Cavan outfit, those who came along on the night,Ye Olde Coopers Inn and the Danby Lodge who provided the food and overnight accomodation,Lorraine Rankin for her lively music ,some local step dancers and our very generous sponsors. The club is very disappointed by the lack of support received by the current crop of players. The winners of the door prizes of a hamper and two fuel vouchers were David Doyle,Mary Hayes and Jenny Murphy.
