Oulart

Bereavement

Oulart community lost one of its oldest and most respected members last week, when Mikie Murphy, Dranagh, passed to his eternal reward after a life well-lived, for over ninety years.

He is mourned by his beloved wife Teresa, his daughter Mary Flood, Cloughbawn, his sons Jack, Jim and Kevin, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, grand-children, his sisters Kathleen Devereux, (Kilmuckridge) and Sheila Rath, (Oulart) his many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.

In his younger days, Mikie was an Oulart hurler of note and he maintained a life-long interest in the club, delighting in their great successes in recent times. Club members were proud to accompany his remains to his final resting place and formed a guard of honour near his graveside.

Mikie was laid to rest in Oulart cemetery following Requiem Mass on Tuesday 11th August. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá anam uasal!

Coiste na nÓg

Elizabeth Freeman sends the following message 'On behalf of Oulart-The Ballagh Coiste na nÓg and all the parents/guardians, I would like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who was involved with the preparations for the Conor Byrne Memorial Hurling Tournament on Saturday 1st August in Oulart and all who helped in any way on the day.

'Without the help and support of so many people it would not have been possible to organise and run the tournament. It was indeed a fantastic community effort in honour of one of our brightest hurling stars who tragically lost his young life, last February.

'We extend a big thank you to all the teams who participated and to their dedicated mentors. Míle buíochas also to Conor's former teammates, club and school, and to the families and friends who came and gave their support. We send our sincere gratitude also to all the sponsors and the people who donated in any way.

'The Tournament was greatly enjoyed by players and spectators alike and it was a fitting tribute to Conor and the sport he loved so much. Well done to each and every one of you! Coiste na nÓg joins with the adult club in wishing Fr. Dermot Gahan the best of luck in his new post in Boolavogue and to thank him for all his support and help over the years.'

There was a great display of produce on display in the hall which looked amazing and the committee look forward to seeing everyone for the 2016 show.

Mass time changes

A diocesan process in underway to address the decreasing number of clergy. A possible outcome is that neighbouring clergy may form cooperative groupings aimed at scheduling Mass times in a way that permits Priests to cover each other's holidays and illness cover and other unavoidable absences from ministry.

As this process is in its early stages it is prudent to say in the medium future there may be a need to further adjust Mass times.

The following are the adjusted times for the parishes of Castlebridge, Screen and Curacloe. Saturday evening vigil Mass at 6 p.m in Castlebridge church and 7.15 p.m in Curracloe. Sunday morning Mass at 9.15 a.m in Curracloe and 10.30 a.m Castlebridge and at 11.30 a.m in Screen.
