Gaa Update

Forthcoming fixtures are as follows: Tuesday 25th August Senior Football Championship Adamstown v Fethard at 8.30pm in Cushinstown, Saturday 29th August Intermediate Hurling Championship Adamstown v HWH at 2pm in Monageer. All support welcome. Dates, times and venues correct at time of printing.

Athletic Club News

Adamstown Athletic Club will host their 8th Annual Open Cross Country on Sunday 13th September starting at 12 noon. There will be medals for the first 12 individuals in U9 -U14 categories. Medals for the first 6 individuals in the U15 -U16 categories and prizes for the first 3 individuals in the Junior/ Senior competitions.

Harvest Festival

Please note change of date for Harvest Festival Day - Sunday 20th September 2015. Next meeting on Wednesday 26th August in the Community Centre at 8pm.

Our Lady's Island

Our Annual Parish Pilgrimage to Our Lady's Island will take place on Monday 31st August. We will gather in front of Our Lady's Island Church at 7pm & process around the island. Mass will commence at 8pm. Later we will stop at the Coopers Arms for refreshments. All are welcome.

Gaa lotto

This weeks Lotto numbers were 5, 15, 17 & 24. No winner. No match three. Lucky dips: Declan Cullen & Mairead (T) Cummins. Jackpot €10,000. Lotto tickets are available from any club member, in the credit Union and in the shop only €2.

Sunday August 16th saw 24 teams descend on Oylegate pitch to take part in an U8 blitz day. It was a great day and the club would like to thank everybody who helped out on the day and those who made sandwiches etc.

We are looking for Female leaders for Girl Guides we meet on a Wednesday night in Castlebridge Community Centre.

Cygnets time is 5.45 to 6.45pm. This group of girls are aged 5 to 7. This is the group where we need a leader ASAP. We also have Brigins aged 7-10 and Guides aged 10 -14+ they meet on a Wednesday night from 7-8.30p.m. We will provide training, Please contact 087 6295641 if you or a friend is interested.

Bree/Galbally

Barn Dance

The Monster Barn Dance takes place this year on Saturday 5th September in Byrne's Grain Store. The band on the night will be 'The Colonials' followed by a disco till late! This year the proceeds will go towards the final refurbishment of Bree Community Centre. Tickets are now on sale locally.

Bree Macra AGM

Bree Macra will hold its AGM on Saturday 29th August in Bree Hall at 6pm. All are welcome to attend'.

Guitar Classes

Guitar Classes will resume in Bree Community Centre in the coming weeks with teacher Kevin Doyle. Anyone interested in joining/rejoining the class is asked to contact Kevin at 086 2237819 for more information.

Pilgrimage

The Annual Pioneer Pilgrimage to Our Lady's Island takes place on Sunday 30th August, commencing at 3pm. All are most welcome. Pilgrimage season to Our Lady's Island continues with Mass each day at 3pm and 8pm with confessions after each Mass.

Youth Club News

Bree Youth Club will hold its annual Registration night on Friday 4th September in Bree Community Centre. The club has two categories: Junior, catering for those from 10 years of age to the end of 6th class, which runs from 7-8pm, and Senior, for all secondary school students, running from 8-9.30pm.

Anyone interested in being involved in Bree Youth Club this year should come to Bree Community Centre, accompanied by a parent or guardian, on Friday 4th September between 7 and 8.30pm. Following registration regular youth club nights will commence on Friday 11th September and will continue for most Friday nights throughout the year.

Once registered club members can come to meet their friends, make new friends and enjoy the many activities organised by the club. We encourage participation in the activities and events that the club provides.

These include competitions between other clubs at county and All-Ireland level, such as soccer, basketball and variety competitions. There are also discos and inter-club parties for junior and senior members, and many other activities organised by Bree Youth club.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Bree Youth Club is run by a group of volunteers made up of parents, adults and junior leaders from the area. All have undergone Volunteer Awareness training and Leader training by FDYS and are garda vetted by Youth Work Ireland.

In order to ensure the smooth running of the club, to cater for increasing membership and extended club times the club needs more parents and adults to become involved as leaders.

Leaders will be required to supervise at club nights and the occasional disco, amounting to a total of 10-12 hours over the course of the entire year. Training will be provided free of charge by the club.

If any parent or young adult would like to be involved please speak to any club leader on Registration night. Remember, the future of the club depends on volunteers and leaders.

Bree United

The club is looking for a manager and trainers for the men's teams for the upcoming season. If you are interested please contact the club on 0868587937. The club is hoping to reintroduce underage girls teams for the upcoming season. Depending on numbers, we hope to have teams ranging from under 10s up to ladies. We are also hoping to have two panels for men's junior league this season. Registration will be organised shortly. New members are more than welcome. Anyone interested in playing, please contact us on 0868587937. Ladies Soccer has recommenced on Thursdays at 7.30pm. All new and returning members welcome.

GAA Lotto News

The numbers drawn were 7, 20, 28, 30. There was no winner of the jackpot. There were three match 3 winners, Michael Brennan, Helena Dempsey and James Breen. The next draw will be held in Byrne's of Bree on 2nd September. The jackpot still remains at a massive €10,000. Tickets are available in all local shops and from committee members. Community Centre

Organisations using or intending to use Bree Community Centre for the resumption of activities in September are asked to contact Eddie Dunne to confirm, book regular meetings, classes and events. This is to ensure that there are no overlaps or confusion around bookings.

SN Seosamh Naofa

SN Seosamh Naofa will reopen after the summer holidays on Monday 31st August for all classes. Reminder that the new opening and closing times will be as follows: Opening at 9.05am for all classes.

Pupils can gather from 8.55am. Pupils should not be on school premises before 8.55am as they will be unsupervised. Closing times 1.45am for infants & 2.45pm for all other classes. We look forward to the new junior infants joining the school. Please note junior infants will finish at 12.15pm for the first 2 weeks, then move to 1.45pm.

Please be careful entering and leaving the school grounds as the building project is in full swing. Pupils can enter the yard via the old front door and make their way to the back yard to gather as before.

Community Games

Well done to all the twenty seven athletes who represented the area and county so well in the National Finals in Athlone last weekend.

The U10 Mixed Relay of Ryan Whelan, Oisin Rochford, Robbie Chapman, Abby Doyle, Gracie Kehoe and Ella Doyle won the bronze medals and the U14 Girls Relay of Katie Whelan, Laura Butler, Sophie Codd, Gillian Smith, Claudia O'Neill and Ellie Jevens won the 4th place medallions.

Both the Boys and Girls U12 Relay Teams reached the final. U12 Girls were Leah Nolan, Anna Jevens, Donna Delahunty, Lucy Kehoe, Amy Doyle and Aoibhinn Crean and U12 Boys were Cillian Doyle, Darragh Kehoe, Craig Andrews and Sean Fitzpatrick. Abbie Doyle also reached the final of the U10 200m. Others taking part were Maura Doyle U8 80m (Semifinal), Ryan Whelan U10 Hurdles (Semifinal), Gracie Kehoe U10 Hurdles, Anna Jevens U12 100m, Aoife Muldoon (U16 200m) (Semifinal), Annalise Crean, Mairead Crean and Katie Mai McCabe in the Marathon.

Sarah Byrne sang well but did not feature amongst the medal in the U16 Solo Singing. Well done and many thanks to all managers involved Una Doyle, Jane Codd, Margaret Rochford, Aine Doyle, William Spratt Murphy and Jackie Byrne.

Irish Dancing

Irish dancing classes recommence for all of our dancers on Saturday 5th September, classes times as normal. Enrolment is now taking place for new pupils. All beginners are very welcome to attend our class in Bree Community Centre on Saturday morning at 10.30 am. The Oylegate Glenbrien Parish Pilgrimage to Our Lady's Island is on Sunday September 6th, starting with the procession at 7pm followed by mass at 8pm.

ZUMBA CLASSES

Zumba classes in Oylegate Community Centre have taken a break for the month of August and will resume on Tuesday September 8th in the community centre from 7pm to 8pm.

Lotto

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot held in Mernaghs Lounge, Oylegate on Wednesday August 19th. The lucky dip winners were Damien Foran and Mary McCauley, Biddy Cullen, Frankie Kehoe, Jim Berry, Lilly Kavanagh, Paul Kavanagh Bunclody, Peter Daly and James Walsh. Golf Classic

Oylegate/Glenbrien GAA club will hold their annual golf classic on Friday August 28th in Wexford Golf Club. It will be a scramble format. Team of 4 costs 160euro which includes dinner. For time sheet please contact Eamon Mernagh.

Half Marathon/10km run
