Hurling

During the recent past the St Fintans junior A hurling team travelled to Cloughbawn to take on the home team in an EEW junior A hurling championship group A game. Though nesting at the bottom of the table the men from Ballymore/Mayglass made the home side pull out all the stops to earn a 1-12 to 0-11 victory. The men from this tiny parish continue to give a good account of themselves against the powerhouses of hurling in the County. The St Fintans send congratulations to underage partners Our Ladys Island on its convincing victory over Clongeen in the intermediate A hurling championship.

U16 Hurling

During the past week Our Ladys Island/St Fintans took on Buffers Alley in the U-16 hurling championship and ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of Our Lady's Island/St. Fintans 7-22 Buffers Alley 3-0.

A solid 1st half display saw the boys take a commanding lead of 3-17 to 0-00 at half time with the goals coming from Lee Redmond, Dean Corish & Jack Hendrick. The Alley boys replies with 3 goals in the second half but our boys continue their scoring spree, albeit at a slower rate, with goals from Dean Corish (3) and Shane Kehoe confirming a 5th hurling victory in a row before the difficult trip to Davidstown next week.

Team from squad of; Shane Pettit, Eoin Goff, Josh Burke, Robert Cloney, Adam Devereux, David Pettit, Cian Meyler, Jack Hendrick, Brian Moore, Jamie Sinnott, Dean Corish, Lee Redmond, Shane Kehoe, James O'Leary & Jason Devereux.

Rosslare Harbour

Bereavement

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Tom Beamish, Ballyhire, Kilrane and late of Carrigroe, Clonakilty, who passed away at Wexford General Hospital after a long illness.

Tom came to Rosslare Harbour in the 1960s and worked with Irish Rail, before starting his own successful Customs Clearance business. Tom was laid to rest in his native county after funeral mass in St Michael's Church, Rathbarry.

St. Paul's AC

Big Well done to Emma Owens who finished 4th in the National Senior Discus in Santry recently. Emma's SB throw of 37.79m in the 5th round led the athlete to her best ever national senior position, unluckily just outside the medals. Finishing 7th last year, moving up to 4th is a great achievement.

Emma also competed in the hammer. The huge field of 22 athletes was one of the biggest in years and unfortunately she was unable to break into the top 8. Her best throw came in the 3rd round with a mark of 34,90m. No doubt Emma will be back aiming for a medal this next year!

This brings an end to the track and field season for 2015. Our athletes have had a great season with numerous County, Leinster and National medals and plenty of potential for next year. Well done to all our athletes who competed over the last number of months!

Cross country season is upon us now, training is in Kilrane school field Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm, new members always welcome! Our Road Race is less than 2 weeks away now, but you can still enter online at www.active.com to avail of a cheaper entry! The race takes place 5th September at 5pm in Kilrane Village (4.30pm for Walkers) with plenty of cash and spot prizes and also refreshments served afterwards!
