Adamstown

Adamstown Lotto

The winning numbers on Monday 7th were 6,9,19,20. No jackpot winner, the following eight players matched 3 numbers collecting €25. Stat. Harvest Festival

Following a meeting of the Harvest Committee on Wednesday night, final arrangements were put in place for hour Harvest Day. This year the venue will be in the field beside the National School.

Events will include: Old Sytle Threshing, Vintage Ploughing, Dolly's Stall, Monster Dog Show, Duck Race, Hamper Raffle. Teas and refreshments will be available all afternoon from the ladies committee. Entertainment provided by Stephen Murphy & The Carty Sisters. Ryan Carthy Walsh - European High Jump Silver Medal Winner will be on hand to demonstrate his technique, also present will be Marguerite Furlong who is an All-Ireland Medal winner and will demonstrate the shot putt.

All helpers will meet at the venue on Wednesday next 16th September at 7pm to put in position the various stalls etc. Next meeting will be held on Friday 30th September in the Community Centre at 9pm.

Presentation Night in Cullen's Lounge on Sunday 11th October where proceeds from the day will be presented to Sr. Helen Delaney, Adamstown Senior Citizen's Christmas Party and Console.

Donations of confectionery for the teas, items for the bric a brac, bottles for the bottle stall will be very much appreciated. Sr. Helen spoke at the meeting and told everyone how grateful she was for the continued support for all who attend the Harvest Day and said we could never imagine the differences our support makes to the lives of the people she ministers to in Uganda. Harvest thanksgiving mass on Saturday night 19th September in St. Abban's at 7.30pm. Thanksgiving Offerings of fruit, veg, breads, jams etc will be very welcome.

The weekly '30' Card Game continues in the Community Centre this Friday 18th September at 9pm. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Catering on Fri 18th will be Breda Bradley, Geraldine Bradley, Kay McCabe & Angela Harrington. Friday 25th Sept, Dympna Rochford, Mary Lawlor, Edel Crean & Marie Dunphy. Fri 2nd October, Ann McDonald, Sinead O' Gorman & Una McDonald. Proceeds going to Parish Funds. Junior Hurling District Final on Sunday 13 September Adamstown v Taghmon Camross at 6 pm in clongeen. Senior Football Quarter Final Adamstown v St Martins on Saturday 19 September at 2pm in O'Kennedy Park. Dates,times and venues correct at time of printing. All support welcome.

Date for you Diary

"The Kube" is coming to town. See your friends take on The Kube in the Horse and Hound Hotel on Saturday 14th November. This fundraiser for Adamstown GAA Club is based on the popular TV Show, with six teams from the Club taking on a variety of challenges. The cash prize for the winner goes to a nominated charity of their choice. More details over the coming weeks in notes, newsletters and on the Clubs Facebook page. A great nights entertainment is promised.

Cemetery Notice

The committee are delighted to announce that donations received from those attending last Sunday's patron amounting to €2,600 which will go towards the upkeep of the Cemetery. They are most grateful for your generosity.

Carrigbyrne Evening

The picnic area, Carrigbyrne was the venue on Sunday 6th September for a very successful adventure evening hosted by the Carrigbyrne Amenity Group which was complemented by the beautiful setting and the fine weather.

The adventure evening was opened by Fr. Moynihan the newly appointed parish priest of Newbawn. The event received great support from both the local community and those from further afield.

The festival atmosphere was enhanced by the entertainment provided for the evening by P. Foley and complemented the BBQ and refreshments available. Both children and adults alike enjoyed the evenings programme.

The overall success and smooth running of the event was made possible by the goodwill of local volunteers and sponsors. The Carrigbyrne Amenity Group would like to thank John Bradley for the use of the field and electrical supply. We also wish to thank our sponsors Horse & Hound Hotel Ballinaboola, Centra Ballinaboola & Irishtown New Ross, MJ Cooper Apex New Ross, Supervalu New Ross, Paul Cullen Adamstown, Simon Ryan and James Moran.

A special thanks to Bernard Brown for leading our historical walk and to all who gave of their time to help out on the day. Next year's programme is already in the planning stages due to the success of the inaugural event. Proceeds from the event are used for the maintenance of the area.

girl guides

We are looking for Female leaders for Girl Guides we meet on a Wednesday night in Castlebridge Community Centre.

Cygnets time is 5.45 to 6.45pm. This group of girls are aged 5 to 7. This is the group where we need a leader ASAP. Guitar Classes

Irish Dancing

Irish dancing classes have recommenced for all dancers with classes times as normal. Enrolment is now taking place for new pupils. Social Dancing

The next date for Social Dancing is Sunday 13th September. Music on the night is by the very popular Theresa and the Stars , who we are always pleased to welcome back. There was no winner of the lotto jackpot held in The Slaney Inn, Oylegate on Wednesday Wednesday September 2nd. The next draw will be held in Mernghs Lounge, Oylegate on Wednesday September 16th. Tickets cost just €2 each and are available from club members.

Fundraising Draw

Oylegate/Glenbrien GAA club are holding a fundraising draw to help pay off the debt on the field. The first prize is €5,000 and all other prizes are cash. Tickets cost €10 each or 3 for €20. Ticket sellers and/or drivers are required to help out with the fundraiser and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Refugee Collection

We are collecting donations of both money and items (below) and bringing a convoy of aid from all over Ireland to Calais on Sept 30th. We are also staying for a week to volunteer at the camp. We are currently in need of the following items: Trainers/ hiking boots / wellingtons (all size 7-9)/ tracksuits/jeans (size 28-32)tents/sleeping bags/ socks/soaps/shampoo/toothpaste/ jackets (size S /M)/underwear/ woolly hats/ pots/candles/tools for fixing bikes, etc. LOW PRIORITY ITEMS: women's/ children's clothes or shoes/ nappies.

Our local collector is Mary Dawkins (086 1518372) who is travelling to Calais on Oct. 1st. for a week. Donations of items can be left into the porch of the parochial house before Masses next weekend. (19th./20th. Sept.)
