Oulart

Leinster Final

All roads lead to Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow, on Sunday next, 29th November for the Leinster Final of the Senior Hurling Club Championship, between Oulart-The Ballagh and the Dublin champions, Cuala.

It goes without saying that our gallant players and astute backroom team are wished the best of good luck as they endeavour to bring an elusive All-Ireland hurling club title to our parish for the very first time. Knowledgeable followers of the game know that Oulart-The Ballagh hurlers have always been talented enough to gain provincial honours but Lady Luck has often thwarted their ambitions. But, warriors as they are, our players keep coming back, year after year, taking one game at a time and believing that one day they will achieve their goal.

Let's keep the flags and banners flying high and travel en masse to Carlow to support our hurling heroes who always keep our club name to the fore. Throw-in is at 2pm.

New Principal

Oulart National School welcomed their new príomh oide, Rathnure native, Ms. Maria Barron on 9th November. Ms. Barron, (who replaces Mr. John Brennan who has taken up an appointment in Carlow), is wished many happy and fulfilling days in Scoil Mochua.

School Calendar

The Parents' Association of our local primary school has produced an excellent Calendar for 2016, featuring photographs of all the class groupings along with their teachers and other staff. It also shows highlights of the past year on the sporting and environmental fronts. The Calendar is on sale in local shops, selling at €8 for one calendar, €15 for two and €20 for three.

Scór na nÓg

Oulart Community Centre hosted the semi-final North of Scór na nÓg on Saturday 14th November. Clubs from the Enniscorthy and Gorey Districts were in action while, on the previous night, the semi-final South was held in Bannow.

Three of the competitions, Solo Singing, Instrumental Music and Ballad Group were very keenly contested, with the adjudicators having a very difficult time deciding on the winners. Oulart-The Ballagh had entrants in those categories as well as in the Recitation section and while all performed admirably, only Declan Sinnott, reciting "Och I don't know" by Percy French, made it through to the Co. Final that will be held in Bannow on the last Friday in November.

Breda Jacob, Oifigeach Gaeilge & Cultúr, Loch Garman was Bean a'Tí while the organisation and smooth running of the competition was in the capable hands of Aileen and Áine Kennedy, Chairperson and Secretary of Scór Loch Garman.

As usual, Oulart Community Centre was an ideal venue, thanks to the co-operation of the committee and in particular, Seán Byrne, Hugh Coleman and Patrick Murphy.
