Bree Youth Club
Bree Youth Club held its first Winter Fun Run/Walk recently which was a huge success. On a day when many people would have chosen to stay at home close to the fire over one hundred participants turned out to take part in the 10k and 5k races. It was an event which brought competitive runners from Bree and neighbouring athletic clubs as well as those who came simply to enjoy an after dinner walk on a December Sunday.
The committee would like to thank all club leaders and parents who worked behind the scenes in planning and running the event, Garda Mick Dunne and the many road marshals who helped ensure that everyone returned to base safely and all of the participants who came out and rose to the challenge of running or walking the sometimes challenging courses.
Fergus Murphy was first man home in the 10k race, Mairead Crean was first lady home, and fifteenth overall, in the same race. In the 5k Ken Cloke and Maria Doyle were first gent and lady home.
Well done to Donna Delahunty and Aoibhinn Crean, first girls home in 5k and to Keith Roche and Bill Blyth, first boys home in the same race.
The Youth Club committee would like to sincerely thank everyone involved in the organisation and running of the event. To all the adult and senior club leaders who worked behind the scenes in planning and running the event, to Anna Wickham and Oven Door Catering who supplied refreshments and her cheerful band of helpers who served some scrumptious soup and sandwiches to participants at the end of the race; to Jane Power and Liz Kehoe who provided some delicious cookies and brownies; to Fr. Michael Byrne and Minister Paul Kehoe who started the 5k and 10k races respectively; and of course to all of the participants who came out and rose to the challenge of running or walking the sometimes challenging courses.
A special thanks to the many sponsors who donated refreshments and prizes for the raffle. Thank you to Oven Door Catering, Byrnes Spar Bree, Quad Attack Clonroche, Smyths Arro, Martin's Londis, Keeley's Shop, Leisure Max, Bree Chip Van, Greenhill Fruit Farm, Enniscorthy Cash and Carry, Wilton Gardens, Wilton Mills, Joe Kavanagh (Moyne Veterinary) and Breda Cahill.
