Oulart

collection thanks

Many thanks to the people of Oulart who contributed €307 to the annual Church Gate Collection held at St. Patrick's Church and organised by Co. Wexford Community Workshop, Enniscorthy. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Well Done

Oulart-The Ballagh's Declan Sinnott was the club's only winner in the Co. Wexford Final of Scór na nÓg and he went on to qualify for the Leinster Final that was held in Co. Westmeath, on 3rd January.

Though he didn't finish in the top spot he performed extremely well and did himself, his family, his club and his county proud. Maith thú, Deaglán! Declan was following in the footsteps of his grand-uncle, Phil Redmond, who reached the Leinster Final of Scór Sinsir last year.

The Instrumental Music group from Réalt na Mara were the only Wexford winners on the night and they now proceed to the All-Ireland Final of Scór na nÓg.

Community Text Alert

The Annual General Meeting of Oulart Community Text Alert will be held in Oulart Community Centre on Wednesday 27th January, beginning at 8pm. Registration of members will take place on the night, as well.

Anyone who cannot attend the AGM is asked to contact the local Text Alert number (087-3316866) and a committee member will deal with any queries and arrange to collect the membership fee of €10.

We are very fortunate in Oulart to have very committed and discreet Text Alert volunteers who freely give their time and efforts to ensure the security and safety of residents and their property.

All-Ireland Semi-final

The Oulart-The Ballagh Senior Camogie team, reigning All-Ireland Champions will contest the All-Ireland semi-final against Milford, (Cork and Munster Club Champions), in Carriganore Sports Campus, Waterford Institute of Technology, on Sunday 31st January. We should all be so proud of all our talented sport-stars, camogie and hurling, who wear the Red-and- Black with such pride and distinction and who have made-known the name of our club, far and wide.

Scoil Mochua News

It is planned to hold Guitar lessons on Fridays (3pm-3.45pm). Parents/guardians who wish their child to avail of these classes are asked to phone the school office before Friday 15th January.

Active Retirement

Oulart Active Retirement Association recently held its annual general meeting. It was a well attended and very useful meeting at which a couple of new members joined the group. Following the usual preliminaries of minutes and financial statement the election of officers and committee took place.

The following were elected: Chairperson Mary O'Grady; Vice- chair Derek Elliot; Secretary Dave Newman; Treasurer Bridie Nolan; P.R.O. Hugh Coleman; Committee members elected were Mary McDevitt and Jim Dempsey. At the end of the meeting tea and mince pies were enjoyed by all, accompanied by plenty of chat.

The group held its Christmas outing on Sunday 20th December. The venue was the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, for a concert with The Willoughby Brothers, preceded by dinner in the Hotel. Twenty four members attended and a most enjoyable evening was had by all.

Bowls have resumed on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm, and Thursdays from 10am to 12 noon. New members are always welcome, call to Oulart Community Centre during bowls times.

School GAA & Camogie

Training for the Mini Sevens and Rackard League, Hurling and Camogie will commence shortly, at lunchtime. It will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, for the buachaillí, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the cailíní. Hurling training will also take place, after school, on Wednesdays (3pm-4pm), weather permitting.

Penny Bank

Now that the Christmas spending spree is over it's time to start being sensible and prudent and make some New Year Resolutions. One very worthwhile suggestion would be to save regularly.

To make it easy for locals to save, Oulart Penny Bank has re-opened and will continue to accept deposits every Tuesday from 7pm-7.30pm. Just go along to the Legion of Mary Hall in Oulart Village and open an account. Your deposit, big or small will be accepted, lodged to a bank account until December 2016 when cheques to the full amount saved will be issued to all savers.

Saving with the Penny Bank is an ideal way to introduce children to the habit of regular saving while for adults it is a great way to put aside a few euros every week in preparation for the expenses of next Christmas.

Double DVD

For those wanting to re-live the glories of Oulart-The Ballagh hurlers' successes in the Co. Final versus St. Martin's and the Leinster Final against Cuala, a double DVD, with commentary, is now available in the local shops or directly from Club Treasurer, Pauline Davitt. As this is a limited edition you are advised to secure your copy before stocks run out. The Double DVD sells at €20.

GAA Club History

As a first step towards researching and recording the history of our illustrious GAA club, it is intended to compile a collection of photographs, documents and cuttings dealing with all aspects of Oulart-The Ballagh GAA.

Materials dealing with the early days of the Association are hardest to come by and so an appeal is being sent out to anyone with any such stuff, from any era, to make them available to the researchers.

Be assured that all items submitted will be treated with the care due to all precious historical documents and will be returned promptly to their owners. Contact Breda Jacob (086-1686978 or 053-9136141) or email mickjacobjr@yahoo.co.uk if you can provide material to help with this project.

Minister of the Word

Anne Sinnott and Eileen Kehoe-Flynn are Ministers of the Word at St. Patrick's Church, Oulart this coming weekend, 16th/17th January. Mary Fitzgerald and Linda Masterson are on duty the weekend of 23rd/24th while Eileen McGrath and Angela Lawless will read on 30th/31st January.

Gaeltacht Scholarships

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA and Coiste na nÓg Loch Garman invite parents/guardians of boys and girls, aged 14-18 years, to apply to have their names included in a draw for part-funded scholarships to Coláiste Cholumba, in the Connemara Gaeltacht, 28th June-19th July 2016. The cost will be split into three equal parts-club, family and Wexford GAA. The Draw will take place at a meeting of Coiste na nÓg Loch Garman in February 2016.

Families who would like their eligible students to be included should contact Breda Jacob (Oifigeach Gaeilge agus Cultúr, Loch Garman) by text (086-1686978) or by email mickjacobjr@yahoo.co.uk no later than 31st January 2016. Should our club be lucky enough to be awarded scholarships a supervised draw will be held to determine the recipients.
