Following their victory over Leitrim in their first game in the Div.4 of the Allianz football league the Wexford senior football team travelled with high hopes of gaining another two points when they took on Antrim in Corrigan Park Belfast.
As against Leitrim this was a nailbiting contest with sides trading points during the early stages of the first half but when the whistle sounded Antrim had forged a three point lead 0-7 to 0-4. On the resumption Antrim were to stretch their lead by a further point but two points by St Fintans man Donal Shanley left just two points between the sides.
Wexford costly errors during the final quarter but another pointed free by Donal brought the men from the South east within a point but another wasted opportunity in front of goal saw Antrim move up the field with a series of passes to score a heartbreaking goal to leave the final score 1-07 to 0-08.
St Fintans man Jim Rossitter was introduced middway during the second and his introduction helped to steady the defence. Well done lads all is not lost.
