Athletic Club news

Well done to Triona Mooney, Ryan Carthy Walsh and Joe Mooney who competed in the All-Ireland Juvenile National Indoor Championships last weekend in Athlone. Joe Mooney finished 1st in the U19 Boys 1.5K Walk, Triona Mooney finished 6th in the U17 Girls Walk and Ryan Carthy Walsh finished 1st in the U18 High Jump. Congratulations to all 3 athletes-great achievements!

The results are in for the National Sportshall Athletics Final that took place in Athlone. The 3rd /4th Class Girls team made up of Niamh English, Caragh McDonald, Ella Furlong, Ella Furlong, Eilis Roche, Laura O'Gorman, Roisin NicGabhainn, Kate Whelan, Megan Martin, Molly Cloney, Grainne English, Maeve O'Neill, Aoife McCabe and Clodagh Crean finished in 6th place overall.

The 5th/6th Class Girls team made up of Katie English, Sinead Roche, Ellen Duggan, Isobel English, Ella English, Ciara Mooney, Abbie Carthy Walsh, Ellie Cloney, Aisling O'Dowd and Leah Furlong also finished in 6th position overall.

The 5th /6th Class Boys Team made up of Tomás Jackman, Conor Whelan, Ben Wall, Robert Wall, Gavin O'Dowd, Laurence Power, Oscar McGabhann and Cormac Byrne finished in 4th position overall. Well done to all the athletes who had to take a day off school to travel to the event in Athlone and well done on their fine performances.

There is a free Sports First Aid Workshop which will be given by the Red Cross in Adamstown Community Centre from 7pm to 9pm on Monday 21st March. This is open to parents/trainers/coaches of any team in any sport. Learn basic first aid skills to treat sports injuries in children. Contact Gerry in Adamstown Pharmacy for more details.

Clonard GAA News

The underage coaching continues for boys and girls in Saint Peter's for U6 and U8 from 6 to 7pm and U10 and U12 from 7 to 8pm. All are welcome, fee €2. Adult hurling training on Thursday nights from 8 to 9pm in Saint Peters'. Contact Martin on 086 2308166. Congratulations to the Clonard Hurlers who won 0-13 to 0-10 against Marshalstown recently. The adult footballers played their first game last Sunday.

Our AGM takes place on Wednesday 30th March. Proceedings begin early with Mass at 2pm. New Committee Members will be elected as four of our committee members will be stepping down.

Wexford ICA Guild

This month's meeting for March will happen on 31st March at 7.30 in the Coolcotts Community Centre. The guild groups competition is "a container of home planted flowering Spring bulbs." You'd be blooming mad not enter this one!

This month's interesting speaker will be Colette Blake who will speak to us about taking care of ourselves. She's an Urodynamic nurse and will talk about this fascinating topic. Scoil Mhuire Fun Run

A 5KM Fun Run/Walk in aid of the Rainbow Unit for kids on the Autism Spectrum in Scoil Mhuire takes place on 2nd April, with registration from 10am, starting and finishing at Scoil Mhuire. Check us out on Facebook for more details.


The Society of St Vincent de Paul will hold a furniture and bric-a-brac sale in Saint Michal's Hall, Thomas Street on Friday 1st April from 10am to 1pm.


Tennis Camp

An Easter Tennis Camp will run from Tuesday 22nd March to Thursday 24th March at the Glynn/Barntown GAA pitch. Time is from 10 am to 12 noon. The cost is €5 per child per day. €8 for 2 siblings-€10 for 3 siblings. Pay as you go. The Camp is being run by Rebecca Crean and Jessie Morrissey. A Camogie Club Disco will take place on Monday 28th March for first years and upwards from 8.30-11pm in the clubhouse. €5 admission by ticket only. Tickets on sale Wednesday 23rd March 6.30-7pm in the clubhouse.

A disco for 4th- 6th classes is on the Tuesday 29th March 8pm-10pm in the clubhouse. €3 admission-Pay on the door. Children to be dropped to and collected from the door by an adult please.


The Camogie Club's Annual Easter Raffle takes place on Thursday 24th of March in Declan's. Please drop any ticket stubs/ monies collected to a committee member or to Declan's before the draw date.

CAMOGIE action

Hard luck to Emma Walsh (Polehore) who lined out in midfield with Wexford Senior camogie team on Sunday v Galway but unfortunately suffered defeat. Elsewhere Patrice O'Gorman with the Wexford Intermediate camogie team were defeated by Laois while Aisling Halligan, Emma Sweeney and Cora Doyle were part of the U.16 Wexford Camogie team who were defeated by Kilkenny also on Sunday.

Good luck to Emma Kiely, Roisin Cooney and Clodagh Jackman who line out with the Co Minor Camogie team v Galway in The Parnells pitch on Tuesday evening at 8pm.


Well done to our U.8 hurlers who received their medals at the final bout of the Bannow/Ballymitty indoor hurling tournament over the weekend with great games v St Annes and Rathnure.

Our U10 boys travelled to Pairc Charman to take on the Faythe Harriers on Saturday and fielded two teams putting in two great performances on the day.

Our U14 boys took part in Féile Peil na nÓg Comóradh na Cásca 1916 on Sunday winning two games out of three -defeating Rathgarogue Cushinstown and Shelmaliers and losing to Naomh Eanna Gorey. This qualified us for a Division 1 semi final v Sarsfields in Pairc Carman but unfortunately the journey ended there despite their best efforts.

Our U16 boys played St. Marys, Maudlintown in Championship on Saturday but were out manoeuvred on the day.


Places are filling fast for the Glynn Barntown's Easter Hurling & Camogie Camp running from March 31st to April 3rd in Killurin. Contact Roisin on 0871253637.


Our Junior footballers played Blackwater on Sunday but were defeated however the Senior Footballers more than made up for this defeat with a confident performance and victory over St Martins in Piercestown that afternoon 1-13 to 0-07 in Round 2 of the ACFL. Well done to Mark Fanning and his Wexford Senior Hurling team mates who had a one point win against Laois on Sunday in the Allianz NHL.

Well done to Alibeth Moran Curran and Cora Rowe who played with Wexford Co U.14 footballers at the weekend.


Congratulations from all in Glynn Barntown GAA & Camogie Club to Denise Fitzharris and Paschal Carley on the occasion of their wedding during the week. Stars both on and off the field, the pair, along with their family and friends enjoyed a magical day which was truly fitting to the these two lovely people.
