Adamstown

Cards

The weekly '30' card game continues in the Community Centre this Friday, November 11, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Proceeds going to Parish Funds.

Catering on Friday, November 11 will be Breda Kelly, Valerie Kelly, Christine Mackey, Ann O'Brien and Eileen Moran; on Friday the 18th will be Dympna Rochford, Mary Lawlor, Edel Crean and Marie Dunphy; on Friday the 25th will be Ann McDonald, Sinéad O'Gorman and Una McDonald.

Card winners on Friday, October 28, were Kay Whelan, Sam Deacon, Patsy Byrne, Séamus Joyce, John Murphy, Tom Rochford, Matt O'Neill and John Hanley.

Adamstown lotto

The winning numbers in the Adamstown lottery on Friday, October 28, were 3, 12, 15 and 17. There was no jackpot winner, the following four players matched three numbers and each got €50. Pat Byrne, Ballindoney; Anna Kinsella, Killegney; Ellie Walsh, Tomgarrow; Ciaran Kelly, Ballyvergin. The next draw is on Friday, November 11, in the Community Centre for a jackpot of €13,000. When this jackpot is won the next jackpot will start at €3,800. Do keep on buying the tickets and in doing so help support the local GAA, Soccer Clubs and Parish Committee.

Athletic Club news

We would like to thank Sports Active Wexford for a grant that we recently received to purchase new indoor training equipment for our athletes. Our athletes of all ages will greatly benefit from this new equipment purchased from the Sports Active Wexford grant. As the indoor season approaches and sportshall athletics this equipment is vital for success of all our athletes and we are very grateful to Sports Active Wexford.

Harvest Presentation

Following the very successful Harvest Day recently the Presentation Night of proceeds for Sr Helen took place in Cullen's Lounge on Thursday, October 27. There was a large attendance and on behalf of the Harvest Committee Fr Nolan, John Power and Phil Jackman were delighted to present a cheque for €5,364 to Dolly Roche on behalf of Sr Helen.

Chairman John Power thanked all those over the past 15 years who had helped in any way to make the event such a wonderful success. He asked all present to stand and remember the many people involved over the years and who have died since 2002 with a minute's silence and prayer.

Thanks to the ladies for the lovely sandwiches and confectionary. Well done, everyone.

ICA News

The ICA would like to thank all who supported and took part in our sponsored walk on Sunday last. Your support and sponsorship was very much appreciated. The final figure will be revealed at a later date. On this Monday, November 7, there will be Mass said in St Abban's Oratory at 7.30 p.m. for past and present members of the guild. A cup of tea will be served in the Community Centre afterwards. Our monthly meeting will take place on Wednesday evening, November 9, in the Community Centre at 8 p.m. Hostesses on the night will be Anne Stafford and Frances Gallagher. Competition is for six home-made Hot Cross Buns.

Sympathy

Our condolences to Nancy and Séamus Bradley and family Adamstown Village on the death of Nancy's sister Josie Ryan which occurred on Tuesday, November 1, at St Columban's Hospital Thomastown, Co Kilkenny. Josie who was in her 88th year was predeceased by her husband Mickey. She is survived by her six children Michael, Joan, Ann, Liam, Brigid and James. Sister Nancy Bradley, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her extended family, relations and friends. Her burial took place on Thursday, November 3, after mass in Duisce Abbey in Calvary cemetery in Graiguenamanagh. May she rest in peace.

Charity Auction

A charity auction organised by Blackwater Scouts Group will take place in Blackwater Community Centre on Sunday, November 20. Viewing from 10 a.m. and auction at midday. Donations can be left at Blackwater Community Centre on Friday November 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the Saturday from midday-3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you have any donations that need collecting please call Dave at 086 3298541.

Tidy Towns AGM

The annual general meeting of Blackwater Tidy Towns will take place on Thursday, November 10, at 7.30 p.m. in the Function Room of Blackwater Lodge Hotel.

Bree/Galbally

Community Games

Chess and Draughts resume this Tuesday, November 8, from seven to 8.30 p.m. in Bree Hall. All children from eight years to 16 years are welcome. Cost is €1 per child.

The Bree-Davidstown Community Games annual Church Gate Collection takes place in the parishes of Bree and Davidstown this weekend. Your support would be appreciated.

Galbally Playschool

The AGM of the Galbally Community Playschool Committee will take place this Tuesday, November 8, at 8.30 p.m. in Galbally National School. Everyone is very welcome to attend.

Bree ICA

There will be a committee meeting of Bree ICA on Tuesday, November 8, at 8 p.m. in Bree Community Centre. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 15, at 7.30 p.m. in the Church of the Assumption Bree in remembrance of past and deceased members of the Guild. This will be followed by a Guild meeting in Bree Community Centre.

Galbally NS Quiz

Scoil Eoin Baiste parents' association are organising their annual fundraiser table quiz this Saturday, November 12, in Ryan's Pub Galbally. The Quiz starts art 9 p.m. and all are welcome.

Clothing Collection

The parents' association of Bree National School are holding a Used Clothing Collection this Thursday, November 10, (6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.) and Friday, November 11, (8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.). All bags can be left at Bree Community Centre between these times. All clothing, household textiles, soft toys, shoes, handbags and belts collected. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Sympathy

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, son, daughter, relations and friends of John Joe O'Leary, Wilton who died last week. His remains were interred in Clonmore Graveyard last Friday following mass in Bree.

Youth Club News

Bree Youth Club's split-the-pot fundraiser is up and running. Envelopes are available in local shops and at Youth Club each Friday night. Draw will take place on the last Friday of each month. Please support this venture as all funds raised will go back into the youth club.

Orders for Youth Club half-zips for members are now being taken. Orders can be placed on Friday, November 4, Wednesday, November 9, and Friday, November 11. Prices are as follows: Kids - €28; Age 13/14 - €30; Adults X Small to four XL - €35. Prices include initials and club crest. All items must be paid for at the time of ordering.

Preparations are under way for our first variety show which will take place in December. Anyone wishing to take part should attend auditions and rehearsals in Galbally Hall each Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Extra rehearsals will be arranged in the coming weeks. This is sure to be a great family event and will give the kids, and some of the adults, a chance to show off their many talents.

Congratulations to the under-12 Soccer team who won the County Final. Well done to AJ Cooper, Jamie Fitzpatrick, Adam Cairney, Lachlan Meehan, Odhran Kehoe, Dylan Delaney, Craig Rochford and Oisín Rochford and their manager Larry Delaney. The club was also represented by the under-15 team of Conor Rodgers, Alan Doyle, Ronan Page, Jack Kinsella, Joe Cahill, Shane Sinnott and Adam Broaders.

Congratulations to the members of the under-18 and under-15 Quiz teams who were victorious in the county finals recently. The under-18 team of Shane Roche, Owen Sherlock, Colm Parnell and Lorraine Windsor with Sarah Byrne as substitute will now go on to represent Bree Youth Club and County Wexford in the National Youth Games finals next summer. They will be joined by the under-15 team of Gilly Phelan, Mary Byrne, Emily Jordan and Ciara O'Leary.

Thanks to Larry Delaney, Josephine Blythe and Ciara Byrne who recently completed adult leader training. They will now assist with supervision at club activities. The club appreciates the time given by these and all our leaders, without whom we could not cater for the number of members that we have. We encourage more parents to become leaders to help with the running of the club. If interested, please give your name to any committee member.

Peter Rodgers, Beth Murphy, Owen Murphy, Amy Carney and Sarah Byrne are currently training with FDYS to become Senior Member Leaders. A further group of senior members will be trained after Christmas. They are Colm Parnell, Sinéad Kinsella, Cian Wickham, Oran French and Seán Kashinka.

Who's Got Talent

After seven years the return of 'Who's Got Talent' hosted in Bree Community Centre is finally on its way with cash prizes. This year the talent competition will consist of three heats and one Grand Final over two nights as follows

We had a great night of songs, recitations, music and super crowd so thanks to one and all for support; winners were Jim Adams, Patty Jordan, Joe Kennedy, Eddie Cullen, Michael Pierce, Carmel Sinnott, Ted Sinnott, Mary Kenny, Catherine Murphy, Chrissie Rice, Thanks to Mag and Patsy for their kind hospitality on the night - looking forward to the next session on December 4.

Text Alert

Glenbrien Community Text Alert are holding two collection evenings to gather the subscriptions for the coming year. These will be held on Wednesday, November 16, and Tuesday, November 22, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Old School Centre. The subscription for 2017 is €5 per phone. If you are unable to attend on either of these nights please contact a committee member - Pat Sludds, Theresa Shanahan or Mary Kehoe. Please note that new members will be required to pay €20.

Camogie Club News

The club's AGM will take place on Sunday, November 27, at 7 p.m. in the Community Centre. All players/parents are expected to attend.

Calamity Jane

A meeting in connection with the staging of the musical Calamity Jane will be held in Oylegate Community Centre on Thursday, November 17, at 8.30 p.m. The meeting is open to anybody interested in taking part in this very popular show.

Holy Family School

This year we will be facilitating the collection of boxes for the Shoebox appeal for anyone interested in taking part. There are information leaflets available in the school office. Boxes can be left int the school during the week we come back after mid term.

A huge thank you to all the parents who helped with the first ever Sponsored Witch walk which took place around the community on Friday last. It was really enjoyed by the parents the Childre and the Staff of the school, also a big thank You to the parents who donated the goodies the decorations and the food for the event it was greatly appreciated.

Oylegate community alert are currently updating the text alert service to a garda monitored service. All calls will now be made directly to Enniscorthy Garda Station and not the community phone.
