Ballymurn

GAA Notes

This week's lotto numbers were 3, 11, 21 and 23. There was no jackpot winner. Match-three winners: Roisin Doyle, Carmel and Hazel Murphy, John Meagher. Jackpot €10,000.

Our under-21 footballers will play the winners of Forth and Bargy Gaels versus Fethard in the county semi-final. It will be played on Saturday, November 26 in Ballymurn.

Table quiz: There will be a table quiz in aid of Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club in Foleys on Friday the 25th at 9 p.m., please come along and support.

Christmas Draw: Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA club are holding a Christmas raffle, with a first prize of €1000, second prize is a load of fire wood. Third and forth prizes of €100 and a fifth prize of lunch for two in the Riverbank Hotel. Tickets on sale at €5 each or three for €10. Please support.

Camogie Club News

The camogie club AGM will take place on Sunday, November 27, at 7 p.m. in Oylegate Community Centre. On the night we will also have samples of our new club jerseys which will be available for everyone to buy. Orders will be taken on the night and deposits will be required. Christmas Gathering

The Ballymurn Parish Christmas Gathering will take place on Sunday, December 4, in Ballymurn Hall. There will be mass in the hall at 4.30 p.m. followed by dinner, entertainment and spot prizes

Christmas cards from Ballymurn are on sale in Daybreak ballymurn. Thanks to Peter Doyle for facilitating this. All proceeds go toward church funds.

Glenbrien

Village renewal group

Wexford County Council proclaimed Glenbrien Village Renewal Group as 'Highly commended' winners. The prestigious winning award was part of 'Keep Wexford Beautiful' 40th anniversary in the 'Best new entry' category.

The honour was bestowed in the Ferrycarrig hotel on Tuesday, November 15, at a major event hosted by Environment section Wexford County Council attended by over 500 invitees from a large range of voluntary community activists drawn from the entire countywide. Mr Paddy Kavanagh MCC was chairman for the event and Mr Willie Kavanagh MCC kept a close watching brief for local community organisations.

The AGM of Glenbrien Village renewal group will take place at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 21, in the Old school centre Glenbrien. All who wish to participate are welcome. Bringing forward the main project of a children's playground is the work in progress. The inaugural setting up of a residents association is also on the agenda in order to establish structures for accessing grant aid.

Community Text Alert

Glenbrien Community Text Alert are holding the final collection evening to gather the subscriptions for the coming year. This will be held on Tuesday, November 22, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Old School Centre. The subscription for 2017 is €5 per phone.

Your annual subscription is essential to the continued successful operation of Text Alert in the community so please spread the word to your neighbours and friends. Please note that we will not be calling house to house to collect the subscription but if you are unable to attend please contact a committee member - Pat Sludds, Theresa Shanahan or Mary Kehoe. New members will be required to pay €20. Congratulations to Fiona Doran Kilcotty who won an award at the CCMA industry awards in Dublin last week. Fiona was nominated by her employer Sunlife Financial based in Waterford in the category for Industry Support Professional of the year. Over 40 companies were represented on the night and it's a great achievement for Fiona to have been in the top three in her category.

kickboxing world Champ

Breanna Sludds Keane took part in the World Championships Kickboxing in Dublin along with her other Dynamic Kickboxing Acadamy Students over the Halloween Break in City West. She not only brought home a medal but two Bronze and Gold in her age group. Hard luck to Christopher Kelly who did not manage to qualify. Breanna is one to watch - a huge acheivement for this lady and her family and friends are so proud of her.

Christmas Lights

On Friday, November 25, at 6.30 p.m. Santa Claus will arrive at the Monument in Oulart for the switching on of the festive lights. A Kids' Christmas Disco will commence in the Community Centre at 7 p.m. and the fun will conclude at 9 p.m. Admission is only €5 and you can enjoy hot chocolate on arrival. This initiative is supported by the 22nd Oulart Scout Group.

Christmas Raffle

The annual Oulart Church Fund Christmas Raffle tickets are being distributed to houses in the parish this week. The usual seasonal prizes are on offer thanks to the generous people who donated them. Anyone who would like extra books should contact the Parochial House or Draw Co-ordinator, Joan Doyle. As this is the only fund-raiser for the church this year your support would be greatly appreciated.

Get Well Wishes

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health are extended to all the sick of the parish, at home or in hospital. In the interests of privacy and security, the names of people in hospital will not be published unless requested by themselves or their families.

Christmas Shopping Bus

On Saturday, December 3, you will have an opportunity to get your Christmas Shopping done under one roof if you avail of the bus bringing shoppers from Blackwater (leaving at 8 a.m.) and Oulart (leaving at 8.20 p.m.) to arrive in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre at 10 a.m. approximately. The bus will depart for home at 5 p.m.

The cost of the bus is only €20 and a €10 per person deposit is required to ensure your seat. For all details ring David at 087 9562978.

This coming weekend, the Ministers of the Word on reading duty in St Patrick's Church, Oulart are Catherine O'Dowd and Pauline Rice. On the following weekend, 26th/November 27, Emer Swords and Marie Prendergast will be on reading duty.

Camogie Notes

Congratulation to Oulart-The Ballagh under-18 team on defeating Cloughbawn in the Co. Final in Killurin on Saturday, November 5. The team put in a strong second-half display to win on a scoreline of 2-21 to 3-04. Well done also to the management team of Dean O'Connor, Eithne Dunne and Philip Rossiter. The camogie club sends congratulations to Sharon Kehoe and Johnny Wynne on their recent engagement.

Scoil Mochua News

All classes have worked hard, preparing to record a CD of songs which will be available to buy, priced at €8. A concert featuring all classes performing the recorded songs will be held in Oulart Community Centre on Wednesday, November 30.

Split the-Pot: Everyone is encouraged to do 'Split-the Pot' to support Scoil Mochua. Entry envelopes are available in all local businesses. To be in with a chance to win just put €2 in the special envelope, seal it and write your name and contact details on the front. There is a winner every week. Congratulations to Martin Dempsey who won €215 in the most recent draw.

Kilmuckridge Family Resource Centre is holding a Christmas Craft Fair in KMH on Saturday, November 26, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Anyone interested in taking a table is asked to contact 053 9130393.

Coláiste an Átha

The Enrolment Evening for incoming first year students at Coláiste an Átha, Kilmuckridge for September 2017 will take place on Tuesday, November 29, in the school. For your convenience the following times have been allocated for enrolment

4.30 p.m. to 5.15 p.m. - Kilmuckridge, Kilnamanagh, Boolavogue and Blackwater National Schools; 5.15 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Ballaghkeen, Oulart, Ballygarrett and Monamolin National Schools; 6 p.m. - For enrolments from other than the above schools.

However, should these times not suit please attend at your convenience. If you cannot make the Enrolment Evening please contact the college for an alternative appointment at 053 9130169. Please note that your child must attend with you at enrolment. You will require your child's PPS number and a copy of your child's birth cert on the evening.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: Coláíste an Átha are hosting a Christmas Fair in the school gym on Friday evening, November 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Local crafts, businesses and school students will be displaying and selling their produce on the evening and there will be lots of fun events for children and families. Everyone in the local community is very welcome on the night.

Marathon

On Sunday, November 27, The Marathon Club of Ireland will be running/hosting a full marathon in Oylegate, starting and finishing at the Oylegate GAA Club.

The early start is at 8 a.m. and the main start at 9 a.m. There will be runners on the Oil Road, Coolnaboy Road, the Bog Road and the N11 from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. approximately.

The MCI committee would like to thank the Oylegate GAA and the residents of Oylegate for their generosity.

Coffee morning

There will be a coffee morning in Mernagh's Lounge on Thursday, November 24, for the SERT radiotherapy bus to Whitfield clinic and for the Hope Centre in Enniscorthy. Both are worthy causes and are used so much by the people of county Wexford, Your support would be greatly appreciated.

GAA lotto

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot held on November 9. The numbers drawn were 13, 20, 22 and 26 and bonus number 23. Lucky-dip winners were Conor Doyle, Siun O'Mahoney, Claire Fogarty, Ml Shiggins snr, Mary Stafford, Paddy Bolger, Lee Kehoe, Billy Reck. Ladies Football

Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies Gaelic Football Club held their annual general meeting recently in Ballymurn Hall. Chairperson Niall McDonald welcomed everybody to the meeting and said that while the club was doing well in general their was concern that numbers were low in the under-10 age group. He also stressed that parent's need to come on board to help with training etc to maintain the high standards that the club has set.

Most of last year's officers were returned although there were a few changes and it was decided to enter two under-14 teams next year.
