Corach Ramblers fc
The winner of this week's Split the Pot is Mick Walsh, Mick's Car Wash, Wellington Bridge who picks up a cool €809. Congratulations Mick. Thanks a million everyone for your continued support.
Corach's u14's hosted table topping New Ross Town in Danescastle this morning in our last game of 2016. Despite a much improved display the boys went down 3-1 on the day. An early defensive mistake handed the away side a lead very much against the run of play. The Corach boys then ramped up the pressure on the Ross back line but couldn't find the breakthrough they deserved, the best of a host of chances came when Michael Dundons attempt came back off the underside of the crossbar.
The 2nd half started as the 1st ended, with Corach very much on top. Several good chances went begging before New Ross struck again with only their 2nd real attack of the game when yet again a mix-up at the back allowed them in to double their lead.
As we threw everything at the opposition, lightning struck a third time when unbelievably another slip at the back looked to have put the game out of reach. In fairness to the boys they never gave up and got a late consolation through Philip Roche.
A mixture of failing to take our own chances and being brutally punished for every small mistake proved too much, on another day we would have been comfortable winners but we will learn from today. Onwards and upwards in the New Year.
