Glynn-Barntown

OPERATION TRANSFORMATION

As part of the Barntown Mayoral Campaign, Operation Transformation Walks begin this Tuesday, January 10, and every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the new Parish Pitch beside community centre. €1 per night, all welcome and bring torch. Promises to be enjoyable and it's for a great local cause (and yourself). Go'on - call a fellow Barntowner and go.

SPLIT THE POT

Split-the-pot is now up an running. Guaranteed weekly winner - only €2 per entry. Envelopes are at the following venues; O'Brien's Londis Larkin's Cross, C & D Providers Larkin's Cross and Mary Jo's. First draw on Thursday, January 12, in the community centre after the Operation Transformation Walk and every Thursday night thereafter. Be in to win.

CANDLELIGHT CONCERT

Candlelight Concert will take place in Barntown Church on Friday, January 20, at 7.30 p.m., with acts seventh Fret, Nick Kinsella and family, Louise and Becky Jones, Luke Donnelly, Kevin Fitzharris and Saxology. There will be a raffle on the night and a door prize. Tickets will be on Sale at all masses in Barntown church this coming weekend and are also available for sale at the Centenary Stores, O'Brien's Sandwich shops in both Redmond square and Main Street and Killeens Service station. €10 adults, €5 kids. This event is to raise funds for the 'Race to be Mayor of Barntown' candidate, Martina Brazzill. We hope to see you there.

Hard luck to our minor footballers who were defeated by Dunbrody Gael last Sunday 3-9 to 2-7.

SENOR GAA

The club was very proud to have three senior players tog out in the Wexford jersey at the weekend as the hurlers and footballers took on UCD in Gorey. Mark Fanning resumed his position as netminder for the hurlers who earned a victory while John Leacy and Rob Tierney lined out for the footballers in their drawn game.

Kilmore

Operation Transformation

We are meeting every Monday and Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the GAA clubrooms for a walk. The route is around the block by Lannagh and the Hill (it is a two mile circuit approx. and will take usually 30-35 minutes to walk). Anyone can come along. This is a community event.

It's free and a good excuse to get out and get moving with your friends. Hope to see many of you there. Don't forget your High Viz vests and a torch and good walking shoes/boots.

Camogie club news

Kilmore camogie club will hold their club registration nights for 2017 on thursday 19th jan seven to 8.30 p.m. in clubrooms and also on Friday, January 20, from 3 p.m. to 4.30. We field teams from under-eights to adults. Membership fees will remain the same as last year which are as follows: underage €30, Adult €50, family membership..2 €50 three €75. New players are always welcome to come and join us.

County Bowls League returns and the following information requires transmission to the Bowls Section of the membership. Bowling practice every Tuesday evening in Stella Maris Centre at 7 p.m. Bowls league in Stella Maris Centre on Wednesday the 11th Jan, Kilmore Gulls versus Slaneyside at 2 p.m. Kilmore Seals away to Ferns also on Wednesday the 11th JAn at 2 p.m.

Drama news

Ballycogley Players are hard at work on this year's full length play 'Lay Me Down Softly' by Billy Roche. The group will be taking part in festivals in Rush, Kilmuckridge, Wexford, Roscommon, Tipperary, Shercock and New Ross. Prefestival performances start early February. Watch this space for details.

Piercestown

Community Text Alert

The first AGM of the Piercestown Community Text Alert Scheme will be held on Thursday, January 26, at 7.30 p.m. in St Martin's centre. The AGM will give the local people of Piercestown Parish a chance to obtain information and gain an insight into how the scheme has been operating to date. The AGM is open to anyone and the committee encourages as many people as possible to attend on the night.

Community Text Alert Schemes have been set up to empower local communities, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, to fight burglaries and other rural crime.

The Piercestown Community Text Alert scheme has been operational since early 2016 and is open to new members at all times. Anyone wishing to join should make contact with the committee.

Scout Group news

Cubs and Scouts will resume meetings on Tuesday, January 17, and Beavers on Thursday, January 19. All going to Panto in Dun Mhuire next week looking forward to a great night. Dancing at Camross

The first dance of 2017 was a resounding success with all our supporters dancing the night away to Catherine and the Images. The February dance will be held on Friday, February 3, with music by the ever popular, Checkers. We wish all our supporters a happy and healthy 2017.

Dance Classes

Social dance classes with Vilma will resume on this Thursday, January 12. at 8.45 p.m. in Camross Ballroom. Cost €5. Come along and learn Modern Jive, Quick Step, Cha Cha and lots more.

Coiste na nÓg

A big thank you to the group of volunteers who carried out great work over the Christmas holiday at our GAA grounds. The hurling wall was power washed and had target shots and goal posts painted on it.

We look forward to the project being completed over the coming weeks with the ground work starting soon in preparation for the Astro turf. Well done to all involved.

The minor football team played the Sarsfields on Sunday morning in Pairc Charman in the first round of the Jim Byrne cup. While they didn't get off to a winning start a great effort was displayed by the lads.
