GAA club Notes

Last week's lotto numbers in the Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club draw were 5, 6, 14 and 16. There was no jackpot winner and no match-three winners. Lucky-dip winners were Caroline Whelan and Eleanor Kelly. Next week's jackpot is worth €5,600.

UNDERAGE AGM - The annual general meeting of the Underage section of the club will take place on Friday next, January 13, at 8.30 p.m and will take place in Kyle Forge, Crossabeg. All mentors and parents are asked to attend.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club held its annual general meeting on Friday last, January 6, in Kyle Forge, Crossabeg. Outgoing chairman John Cummins thanked all the players and mentors at adult and underage level for all their hard work during the year. He thanked the club sponsor Liam Eviston, and all who supported the club lotto and other fundraising events during the year and also the Penny Bank collectors. John thanked the club officers and all those who had worked with him on the committee during his five years as chairman. He said he was proud to have served as club chairman and wished everyone involved with the club all the best in the future.

Gerry Bernard was elected as the new club chairman and he thanked John for all the hard work and time he had given to the club. Other appointments on the night were James Grannell (Vice-chairman) John Fortune (secretary) Daithi Redmond (Assistant secretary) the position of treasurer to be confirmed; Conor Shovlin, jnr (Assistant treasurer) Bill Eviston (PRO). Conor Shovlin, snr was elected the football manager and the position of hurling manager is yet to be confirmed.

Adult membership fees for 2017 were set at €120 for players, €60 for students and €50 for non - playing members. All memberships payable before January 31. An extraordinary general meeting of the club will be held in Kyle Forge on Friday evening next, January 13 at 7.30 p.m.

Penny Bank - Approximately €171,000 was collected by the Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club Penny Bank in 2016. Thanks to all who subscribed to same. New saving club members are most welcome. The collectors in the Crossabeg area are Kathleen Hayes, John Foley (087 0568423) and Donnacha McDonald.

5K Fun Run

It has been a while since our announcement of our Fun Run, which will take place on January 22. We have been busy adding a bit of excitement to the run this year. Since we are sharing what we raise this year between Temple Street Hospital and Ballymurn National School, the teachers of Ballymurn NS have taken the task of racing against a Temple Street Team which will comprise of parents of the pupils in the school with an additional €200 up for grabs for the winning team,.

Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies' Gaelic Football Club presents Operation Transformation and Between the Bells 2017, a community fitness activity for all the family - let's get fitter together.

Crossabeg Ballymurn Ladies' Gaelic Football Club organised this fundraiser to get the community active in 2016. It was a great success and we will be running the same format in January this year.

The fit-fun is on at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays till Tuesday, February 21. The final get together will take place on Tuesday, February 28. More information can be found on the Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies' Gaelic Football Facebook page.

Bree AC News

Indoor training resumes on this Thursday, January 12, at 7 p.m. for five to eight and from 7.45 p.m. for all others. High Jump training takes place in Galbally Hall on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. Outdoor Training takes place at 7 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings for all registered members. Registration fees for 2017 are now due.

Best wishes to all those taking in the winter League Cross Country. Next date is this Friday, January 13, in the Hub and on Sunday, January 22 - Venue TBC.

Congratulations to Ciara Laffan, who won a bronze medal in Ireland's under-10 Fastest Feet Competition recently. Bree AC was also represented at the national finals by Jayden Kenny and Cian Donovan.

Active Retirement

Charity Night

A special fundraising Charity Night in aid of the SERT. Bus Service (South East Radiotherapy Trust Bus) has been organised for Friday, January 13, in the Ferrycarrig Hotel commencing at 8 p.m. Acts on the night include Celtic Roots, Borderline, Michelle Delmar, Castlebridge Gospel Choir, Stephen Murphy and DJ Eoin Healy. Tickets cost €10 per person with spot prizes on the night also. A photobooth will be run by @gueststarsireland. Tickets are available from Bree Post Office or check out the SERT Charity Night Facebook page for more information. All support for this very worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

The SERT service is a transport service run on a voluntary basis for patients who need transport to and from radiotherapy treatment services in Waterford Regional Hospital. Many people from Wexford and indeed our own locality rely on this voluntary service to get to their treatment appointments so any support would be greatly appreciated.

New Arrival

Congratulations to Rory and Judy Jacob, Killisk on the birth of their son MJ (Michael John) in Wexford hospital on December 23, weighing in at seven lbs 6.5 ounces. MJ is the fifth grandson to Breda and John Murphy, Randall's Mill, Crossabeg and grandson to Breda and Michael Jacob, Oulartwick. Deo Gratias.

Camogie AGM

The annual General of Oulart-The Ballagh camogie club will be held in the Upper Complex, on Friday, January 13, at 8 p.m. All members and intending members are invited to attend.

GAA club agm

Following another outstandingly successful year, in which the senior hurlers retained the county title and achieved its 13th senior championship, Oulart-The Ballagh GAA will hold its annual general meeting in Oulart Community Centre on Saturday, January 21, beginning at 7.30 p.m., with registration from 7 p.m. The club has much to celebrate and a great year to review as well as the need to make plans for 2017. Please note that the date has been changed by one day, to Saturday the 21st.

Senior Citizens Party

Oulart Senior Citizens Committee will host the annual Senior Citizens Party on Sunday, January 15, at 2 p.m. People over 65 years are all welcome to attend. Invitations will be sent out but, in case someone is inadvertently omitted, the committee would ask that it be brought to their attention so that it can be rectified. A table quiz to raise funds to help local students fund a trip to Bucharest to work in Orphanages will be held in Mernagh's lounge Oylegate on Friday, January 20. All support greatly appreciated.

GAA Penny Bank

Many thanks to all who saved with the club penny bank for 2016 and huge thanks to all the collectors, without your help this great facility would not be possible. The 2017 penny bank resumed on January 6 and new members are always welcome. contact any committee member if you wish to join.

GAA Club dinner dance

Reserve Saturday, January 21, to celebrate with the club at our dinner dance in the Ferrycarrig hotel. Medals will be presented on the night to our winning county intermediate and minor teams and our under-21 district winners. Music will be provided by American Heart, tickets €25 available from any committee member, we look forward to seeing you there.

Sports Quiz

A sports quiz in aid of County Wexford Hospice Homecare will be held weekly in Mernagh's Lounge Oylegate on February 6, 13 and 20. There will be €1,000 in prizes and a table of four costs €40. The final will be held in Whitford house Hotel on February 27.

Reprint of book

In 2008 our book 'Oylegate-Glenbrien, A Look Back in Time' was published and it sold out in three weeks. Since then, many people have asked about getting a copy. The Oylegate-Glenbrien Journal Committee is now considering ordering a reprint, possibly in soft cover.

At present we would like to gauge the level of interest in purchasing the book. If you would like to buy a copy please email oylegateparishnews@yahoo.com or call or text Tom Miller at 086 8677334 giving your contact details. The Journal Committee will then get back to you in due course. The closing date for ordering your copy will be January 15.

Kettlebell Classes

Kettlebell Power Fitness classes for ladies, continue in Oylegate Community Centre on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Excercise mats and kettlebells are provided. Beginners and all fitness levels are welcome. For more info contact 087 6180872, or just arrive on the night.

Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration takes place every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Prayer Room in the church. We are looking for new members to commit to spending one-hour weekly (at a time of your choice) before the Blessed Sacrament.
